I thought 'Mick Jones' sounds like one of his false persona..... Fair age difference between them....
Sorry for the delay, I'm on holiday in Cornwall, resting up before Thursday night's launch of A Night of 1,000 Vampires and Friday's reunion gig...and then a long midweek drive up to Manchester and back for another reunion gig. It takes it out of you, I can tell you that.
Making our way to the reunion gig...and Mrs B's somewhat dodgy brother in law has cancelled at the very last ****ing minute. I have a spare ticket...if anyone is interested, FOC, start making your way yo Hammersmith Odeon...NOW...and pm me!
It's definitely the afternoon, the day after.....Didn't get home until 4 am and am physically in tatters. Gave the ticket to a mate who had a cheap ticket for a seat at the back of the circle. I found that I've become an extremely minor celebrity. At the previous night's screening of A Night of a Thousand Vampires, I asked Captain a question and he referred to me as "the bloke with a astro turf on his head". So, last night, about 20 people approached me and asked "are you the bloke with astro turf..?". Fame ain't worth the hassle, if you ask me. TV Smith and The Bored Teenagers were great. Mrs B's not the biggest fan, but even she was blown away by a storming set. Skids were even better. Jobson on top form, slagging off U2, Green Day, Big Country, Jimmy Saville, Captain and most of all, himself. Fabulous rousing cover of Complete Control to end, which the crowd took over. As for our boys....they were good...better than I feared. Rat played well, not at the pace of '77 but well enough to remind me how much he's been missed. Captain kept his lips firmly closed and played great bass on the old Hofner violin. He and Rat played off each other with no sign of old grudges, which was good to see. Dave was great. No crooning delivery or excessive US accent of later years. He sang it like it was '77 and gave it the beans. He's obviously been working out and is as fit as a flea. A great night from him...as thus was definitely his project. Finally, poor Brian. He's obviously not a well man. He slunk further and further back on the stage, until he needed to be helped off from the very back of the stage at the end...and the sight of an ambulance waiting outside set the rumour mill going. Apparently, he improved later at his hotel but whether he fulfills all of the 6 shows has to be in question. His guitar was well down in the mix too...and a couple of people have suggested he wasn't playing towards the end if the set. I doubt that. All in all, it was a great night. Met loads of friends and definitely made some new ones. Roll on Manchester on Thursday....hopefully.
That is a thought, now I'm a celebrity. I could take to saying "Don't you know who I am?".... ...but sometimes, I'm not too sure myself.
I've just seen that Dead Kennedy's drummer D H Peligro has died from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. A really talented drummer and a very sad loss, way too young at the age of 63. RIP.
