Marc Bolan would have been 75 today , I think I saw one of his last live appearances, Watford town hall, an ELO concert and he came on and played with them on the encore, week or so later he was killed , from what I've read about him an all round decent man who helped out many fellow musicians
There was a concert to mark the occasion, but it got cancelled...at very short notice, which disappointed quite a few people. Here's the line up, including Mr Vanian, but surprisingly, missing Captain... please log in to view this image
This week on Whitehouse and Mortimer gone fishing we have the niche cross over of Thames mills and early Black Sabbath album covers , gone fishing is the best thing on TV at the moment
I recently brought this album on the strength of the title alone , I am getting through a large tube a week due to a frozen shoulder
The band were on the crest of a creative wave at that time and searingly good live. Albums 3,4 and 5 don't have a weak track on them An extraordinary run for any band. Having Paul back with Dave and Captain has been a joy over the last few years. Hopefully, the new album won't get ruined by an ill-suited production job, like the last one was. Reunion gigs are approaching rapidly. If there's anyone interested, last week, there were some cheaper tickets in the circle for Hammersmith - just over £40.
I love the story that Bolan hired Rick Wakeman to play on a session, all Wakeman did was a 1 second piano trill but Bolan paid him for the full days session fee knowing Wakeman was down to his last penny , he did this to a lot of musicians down on luck and work
Tickets booked for the Preview of 'A Night of 1,000 Vampires' at Cineworld Leicester Square 27 October (the night before the Hammersmith reunion gig)... https://frightfest.nuwebgroup.com/e...P4lOQKqQ8qcm8rIDRYek8EdnamZgYYYBj_eOp56kDYK9Y Some tickets still available.
Stretching the Winwood link a bit further, but this supergroup was amazing and they should have continued. Love this track and have the very rare EP in my collection!
