I went to a gig last night...absolutely buzzing off the back of it. Saw The Smyths at The Half Moon in Putney...memories! Not from last night but you get the idea... £6 a ****ing pint and £12 for a burger, though! Open up The 100 Club, NOW!
I remember seeing the Feelgoods at the Half Moon in the summer of 76 it was so hot in there and a load were carted out with heat stroke , Mrs Conn had a beehive in those days and it wilted sure it wasn't £12.00 for a burger then , most likely only sold crisps and peanuts
I'm off, with Mrs B, down to Eastbourne for a week to have a break and dog sit for my step-mum. Looking at the entertainment possibilities, I spied this... https://www.ents24.com/eastbourne-events/congress-theatre/toyah-willcox/6266644 "Why the **** not?" thought I. Mrs B agreed and I'll report back on whether she's been able to afford a bra, now that the shops are open and there's some income coming in. I'm taking my ear plugs and Mrs B's opera glasses.
So, on 10 July, Mrs B and I were due to go to see Johnny Moped @ The 100 Club...but it got cancelled. Now, it's rearranged....for 17 December.....2022.... 20 - ****ing - 22 please log in to view this image I'm not happy.
So, we went to see Toyah last night. She wore 2 different outfits, changing during a 20 minute intermission. Both outfits showed no nipple at all and Mrs B confirmed the presence of undergarments throughout. She's a better singer thanI remember or you'd guess from the Sunday Brunch. Me Fripp not present. Mrs B filmed one number, which I'll post later. VERY socially distanced. Every other row was empty and 2 seat gaps between all parties. I met a woman who is good friends with Dave Vanian's first wife Laurie and we chatted about the old days whilst Mrs B upset the locals. Gig ended at 9.20..bloody provincial venues. It's a start.
It was ...now it's full of druggies, alchies and general scum. It was really sedate and middle class. Not anymore. Friday afternoon, Mrs B and I spent 90 minutes holding a woman's wrist together after we encountered her lying in the street bleeding profusely after she'd slashed her wrist so deep that she'd severed tendons. Needless to say she was off her tits... until the pain broke through.
I have to go there for work every couple of months and that doesn't surprise me , sadly most seaside towns are like it now as the big city councils ship the " difficult ones" to the coast as there are plenty of cheap rents to be had and gets them off the books
90 minutes to get an ambulance because they've closed down the ambulance station in Old Town. The bloody hospital was 15 minutes walk away and we could see a St John's Ambulance depot down the road. The woman probably would have died if we'd not come by. We'd have driven her there if we hadn't had a very good lunch with a few beers. Still, today we had tea at The Grand. Very nice.
It was 45 years ago today.... ...supporting the Pistols @ The 100 Club. Happy birthday to one and all who have served!
