Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear 1st album, Happy Birthday to you. Damned Damned Damned is 44 years old today...and its creator is claiming it's his 66 birthday (he's 70, easily). If there is one record that changed my life...this is probably it.
If you've got one of the Eddie & The Hot Rods 'misprints', you should be looking after it, as in excellent condition they're worth upwards of £1500... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Thanks to No One...
Feeling particularly housebound, so I've just booked accommodation for Rebellion 2021 - the first w/e in August...a complete bargain @ £60 per night for 2 persons with a cooked breakfast ranked as 'outstanding' in a hotel right in the centre. The place has got a 9.1 rating, no up-front payment and we can cancel up to 21 July I'm not particularly all that bothered who's playing but I reckon there has to be a chance that some version of The Damned might still get added. In any event, there's the joy of an ice cream at the end of the pier, listening to the pipe organ, cheap beer and a whole load of punk - possibly on 8 stages...or on 2 major outside ones. At this point, anything sounds good...maybe even Cock Sparrer...? No, probably not.
All have female backing vocals or on second thoughts have the Damned covered them and do you have Damned t shirts that were once worn by peggy Lee, mel Torme, Marty Wilde ect DV ( the Hemel Vampire) covered town without pity ???????
I think I've said this before, I saw them do this at the music machine Camden way before the album or single came out
I was driving and doing a bit of roadying for the Street band , my mate was a bestie with Paul Young , the Damneds manager did a deal with the Street Band to top the bill , the place was stuffed with NME writers and radio DJs. The street band left with the most cash they had ever made and the rest is history , I got £35.00 , not bad as I was earning £40.00 a week at the time from my day job
We have a winner! He covered all of them but they're largely collectors items, especially the rarely available 'unreleased' album, which was sold at gigs on cassette tape, to get a bit of money in the coffin....
You beat me to it. I saw them first in April '77 with The Adverts. So, I'm as jealous as hell. I'm one of the few people in the world who wouldn't lead with Motorhead played as well, at The Roundhouse. I didn't get paid to attend but I did get in for nuffin'.
The other thing that comes to mind from that gig was the Damned manager paid the street band extra money as they let them use their PA and drum kit , drummer was pissed off as Rat pinched some of his sticks and the guitarist wasn't best pleased to see the Captain jumping about on his speakers and amp , street band had a couple of albums and a " hit " Toast , then broke up, Paul Young formed the Q Tips with the bass player and rhythm guitarist
My musical day started with a playlist that spotify suggested I might like - they certainly caught my mood just about right here are the first few
But about 10 songs in it through a proper curve ball But such are my listening habits I wasn't really surprised!
Always a great song live. There's that one second gap between the unaccompanied initial guitar and the rest of the song proper. As soon as that second's over, there's pandemonium. I love that second.
