This music forum is nearly 4 years old and I have contributed more than my fair share. Regular visitors will know that I have my favourite (even my name and avatar are a clue) - But I also like to think that I have a rounded approach too music that avoids 'genre' and is very much that if I like it then its good music. Being of a certain age I have been slow to take up new ways of listening to music I still have shelves of CDs and for years downloading CDs to my laptop was me being modern, but during lockdown my sons have encouraged me to use spotify and particulalry in this new lockdown I have started listening to playlists of songs that spotify thinks I would like, and whilst plenty of my old favourites turn up, it appears that I have also have an affinity to certain late 70s and early 80s disco music I guess the sort that was played at all the 18th and 21st birthday parties and wedding receptions that I went to and soundtrack of the nights I spent at 'Bridge Country Club' circa 1982! Here are just a couple that keep cropping up
So whilst we are in party mood... Did all the girls sit on the floor for this one? Did anybody else do the 'dead fly' with Lulu Floor Filler maybe a conga and if you were lucky at the end of the evening a slow dance
Not just girls Yes...but also to the version by Otis Day & The Knights - I 'may' have owned the soundtrack until someone nicked it. Great soundtrack by the way. Once or twice...yes No Almost certainly... I've no shame.
Happy sound check day everyone! 12...1...21 Smash it up is well worth watching, as they get a drummer up from the crowd (who is great) and 'Jonno' joins the band on stage. He's seen The Damned over 500 times and is a real character.
They remind me of another post punk band but for the life of me I cant remember ? The only ones or Bluetones maybe ? Is the lead singer Jay from inbetweeners, expecting him to shout BUSWANKERS at any time
Apologies for the quality of the recording...but this extremely rare studio recording of the boys is worth watching to get an indication of quite how exciting they were back in '77. Notice Rat unable to stay in his seat or behind the kit and Dave's drawn on pencil moustache... I really hope that the original line up gigs go ahead but I'm not too hopeful at the moment...fingers crossed.
They still haven't fixed the boiler...or bought a tumble drier for Ms Wilcox's smalls. On Mrs B's Facebook, there was divided opinion upon the merits of the Sunday Lunch postings on Youtube. Those with internal reproductive organs were less keen than those sporting external ones. The differences were pretty darned polarised from what I saw.
The other day, I estimated the number of The Damned t shirt, hoodies, etc. that I've got in the collection...and the total was sufficient to relieve my incredible, gnawing boredom levels by inflicting this Top 20 on you... No 20. This one. If it was in any colour but white, it'd be a lot higher. It's the 5 Year Anniversary design from The Lyceum...and I was at the gig, although this was a later purchase. There were red ones, which would have been great but you can't get them anymore...So here it is...
I think the broken boiler problem lies with the British Gas engineers who are currently on strike defending their terms and conditions which I back to the hilt but if Mrs Fripp needs a good warming chest rub I will oblige
No 19.... The only other one that isn't black, it commemorates the 1986 Tea Party in Finsbury Park to celebrate 10 years of the band. It's my least favourite line up and I'm getting too fat to wear it...so, No 19 it is.
