Bit of a Tears for Fears fest last night on BBC4. One of my favourite bands. A couple of their best - dark lyrics, anthemic tunes. Fantastic.
To my amazement, The Stranglers have added an extra night at Brixton in November. That would suggest that they've sold out (how apt?) the Saturday night. Tickets are heavily discounted at..................................£79............................... Even if it was their last ever gig, it'd still be a "No.....and **** off!" from me.
Gigs are just a stupid price now, I used to see at least 3 bands a month 1 would be a top act , I went to the O2 last year to see a band and the seats were so bad I watched the whole gig on the screens ,complete waste of time and money, saw another band at the hammersmith odeon (what ever it's called now) and got fed up with people getting up and walking around and filming it on phones and iPads
Most of the bands that I want to see don't cost much, comparatively and this stuff isn't going to be here forever - in the last year the B52's and The Stranglers have indicated that they're calling it a day or restricting their activities. So, if not today... Also, I go to a fair amount of stuff in pubs...although less with each passing year, as places close down and bands of my age tend to drift apart. A place (The Cavern) has recently opened in Raynes Park - https://www.lemonrock.com/cavernfreehouse?page=gigs - I've been once and it was great. I'm a big SAHB fan, so maybe Vambo?...but definitely Glamstar. Then there's always The 100 Club. There's hardly a week goes by where there isn't something good and very affordable - the last time I paid over £20 was The Damned in 2007. People and their ****ing phones are a nightmare, even for me at 6' 5"...I'm learning what it's like to be a short arse and have someone block your view...needless to say, I don't like it...but as I grow older, that's increasingly the case with everything.
Am I a bad person because the first thing that came to mind was "What other rooms does she have a version for?"?
Not sure I see the appeal of the Stranglers without Hugh Cornwell. Like Queen without Freddie Mercury. It's just not the band anymore.
Baz is a very good front man - he is not Hugh, but he is in my opinion better than Paul Roberts (the original replacement vocalist). The other difference is that since Hugh left new band have recorded several very good records, with Stranglers In The Night (with Roberts) and Norfolk Coast (with Baz) ranking alongside the later albums made with Hugh - though never reaching the levels of Black and White or The Raven.
Andrew Weatherall gone. God that hurts hard. Superb DJ, remixer, producer, and artist in his own right. So much to pick from, but these immediately came to mind for me ...
Wasn't sure whether to post this in ex spurs or music! David Howells daughter - I don't have apple music so could only listen to a short clip sounded a bit bland to me "">
I can see it being used at the end of a programme where there's been a breakup or someone's dying. Not my kind of thing, but it's sounds quite decent for the style it's in.
Rattus Norvegicus went missing from my record collection when I got married and moved out of my parents house in1979 , I went back one Sunday to hear it blasting out of the stereo, found out it was my Mums favourite lp and she nicked off me
Going back to the issue of bands in pubs. This is The Weird Things , who play in Croydon a fair bit... The drummer is Martin Parrott, whose odds of being The Damned's next drummer are shortening by the day, as they've started putting together a tour, starting in May...and Martin's still working with Paul and Captain.

Forty three years ago this was unleashed on a largely unexpectant universe... https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLo-CVFFA0DtVV1WUpc_4pORRVaLvrdWJa ...it's still thrilling today.
