Well aware of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. Good band. For me, Joy Division had something that set them apart...on vinyl, especially on that first album. They had a great studio sound courtesy of Martin Hannett. Most indie records sounded like **** in comparison. Now I'm gonna upset a few people...they weren't as great live...and yes, I saw them, twice.
The main thing that I took out of deedub's post was that he was going clubbing... I'm just not a people person anymore.
Okay people, I've tried being nice about this and it doesn't seem to be working. Tomorrow night, Ruts DC are playing the Shepherds Bush Empire to celebrate 40 years since the release of The Crack....and there are still tickets available. Just £23.75 on your credit card and pick them up at the door. Who hasn't bought their ticket? They're going to play the entire album, probably for the first time since Malcolm died. I've seen interviews where they've said they can't remember playing tracks like Human Punk since then. Support is The Professionals, so it's a bargain price for 2 top acts. Ironically, I could only find this from the current tour...which isn't on The Crack but is a belter all the same.... I'll be to the right of the stage, about 8-10 rows back, tall, balding and gorgeous and accompanied by Mrs B...see you there? Good. BUY THE TICKETS!
Afraid I'm in Spain, I'd love to be there. Just counting down the days until either, the new job comes though or the new tax year starts so I can come home without being screwed by HMRC. In other words I'm in a Rut as the afore mentioned would have said. Fekking hung over as well today as well. Lets hope Spurs beat the chavs tonight.
I'm always drawn back to this night, Foxy's last gig and it was amazing he was able to get through it.. Oh, what a night. I've got a mint T Shirt from that night in a frame. They have been and continue to be a fabulous act..."I can see you"
Enjoy it, I know I would. Probably wouldn't be able to walk the next day because I'd jump around so much on a gout riddled pair of pins fueled by alcohol, but c'est la vie.
Rollins is on record as to what a big influence The Ruts were on him and punk in the US and you can really hear it. They were the initiators of thrash punk but had a lot, lot more in their locker. Had Malcolm not died......well, who knows? The respect remains between him and them...
Lots of 40th anniversaries floating around. It's that for Machine Gun Etiquette and consequently, Smash it Up. To celebrate, there's a new T Shirt... please log in to view this image ...it and not the track (boo hiss!) is featured in the new Transformers movie, Bumblebee. Shame, the royalties would have been good news for the then members. Still, here is the track in question. Pt I was written when Captain heard of the death of the band's friend Marc Bolan. Pt II is probably a radio jingle played backwards, as were a number of tracks on that album. Yes, he got naked fast didn't he? I cannot report what Spanish television made of it all....I will try to find out next time I see The Captain.....could be tonight?
Back from the gig. The Professionals were great. Paul Cook's still a very good drummer and the Japanese bassist bassist completed a very tight rhythm section. The Ruts were top drawer. The place was a gnat's from being full and yet the first bars of Babylon's Burning was like being punched in the chest. Highlights... Something that I Said; You're Just A..; Still Out Of Order; Human Punk (with recordings of Malcolm from the album); H Eyes; Love In Vein (merging with Police and Theives) The first showing on Youtube... Great, great night. Decent pint of cider too.
You get a decent view of numbers from this encore of 'Staring at the Rude Boys'. As Segs said, "...Full house....we must be in London?" A special night. Oh hello. From 3.45 if you look at the people nearest to the camera, centrally there are 2 bald(ing) fellas (the lovely Pogo Pete Bayer and Tony) and to the right there's a tall bloke with a lustrous full head of hair (my bald spot's not as bad as I feared) and a neck double the size of most normal people. Again, to the right the gorgeous young goddess, Mrs B. Helloooooo there! It's good to see the young, beautiful people out and about and having fun......... Yes, I'm not in my normal spot (I was there for The Professionals and none of you came and said hello) but Pete goes to so many gigs his hearing won't take any nearer to the stage.
