Tonight they're showing the Christmas TOTP from 1978 on BBC4. It was a great year for music, unless you watched Christmas TOTP which featured Boney M, Father Abraham & the Smurfs, Darts, Brotherhood of Man, Brian and Michael, Shawoddywotsit...plus bloody Mull of Kintyre. Anyway, here's some decidedly less **** offerings from 40 years ago...
Just watched Madness do a couple of numbers on BBC1 to see in the New Year. I've never been that much of a fan but holy ****, they were shockingly awful! I swear Suggs was off his face. He's never been a singer but 2 choirs couldn't hide the fact that now, he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. As an alternative, some real talent...
I watched madness and agree with you they really were awful.Anyone who saw that surely would never pay to watch them live again.
Just watched the BBC programme about top of the pops and the music of 1987 - I have watched all these programmes I think the first one was 1977 and they are getting worse and worse 87 was a terrible year music wise if this programme is to be believed - wall to wall stock aitken and watershit a brief clip of Jesus and The Mary Chain aside it was total bollocks
I thought that when they played closing ceremony of the Olympics and thats now over 6 years ago! I vowed then that I wouldn't see them again
Of all the weird things to stumble across while vampiring my soon to be closed local branch of HMV, several albums of Norse music by this lot
MARRS And 2nd generation Hip Hip (which began the genres' rise to commercial dominance) . I was surprised the programme included either.
1987...a long, long way from being a classic Co-written with Joe and it looks like Pete Wylie at the ticket office... A wonderful song but a so-so cover by a Damned line-up that had run out of steam And the (still) beautifully gorgeous Liz Westwood...
I meant to post this yesterday - something distracted me can't think what! It was 40 years ago yesterday that this little beauty was released The record label is wrong though - that record is Babylons Burning!
