If we're discussing ripping off someone else's act, Spandau Ballet filled pretty much their entire first album with slightly differing versions of this track by The Damned. Tony Hadley has subsequently had the decency to acknowledge that he was a huge fan and copied Dave Vanian's vocal style throughout his career. In true weasel fashion, Gary Kemp never admitted ripping off Captain's and Paul's work.........."Work 'til you're muscle bound"............what a load of bollocks...........
As I assume you well know, all these songs were recorded by the same band. All written by Dexter Holland. I am therefore not sure I understand what point you are making. That The Offspring sound like themselves through the years? As if often the case with your postings I feel there is a point/joke that goes over my head.
Chas and Dave played and sang on this song, which was sampled by a variety of people. 2.30's probably the most recognisable.
I'm watching this t-shirt on ebay because I really, really want it. please log in to view this image It's got 17 hours left and bidding has already reached £75. I have asked Mrs B and she has mentioned getting a proper job with NI, a boss and everything. The alternative is to set up a bed in the garage. This is not good news, whichever way you cut it...there's gonna be some A Grade grovelling...
Just to go back to that Labi Siffre song that featured Chas and Dave, here's a few that have sampled it: It's quite a list: https://www.whosampled.com/Labi-Siffre/I-Got-The.../sampled/
I'm sure they would have been fans as they are the right age to have got punk. Shame they couldn't have embraced it a bit more in their sound rather than making lightweight rip-off alternative songs. Do you reckon they were into these guys too?
At the time of Punk there was a big dance thing as well. About half of the kids at my then school were soul boys in '76 and '77. I know that's where Gary Kemp's musical leanings were. Hadley and a couple of the others were punks whilst it was the 'in thing' but were off to the next thing PDQ but Hadley always found a slot to play Damned tracks on his radio show and recounted how much he liked them. I know that John Taylor of Duran Duran was a huge Clash fan. He's on record as saying that 'Give 'Em Enough Rope' was his favourite album of all time and that he'd learned to play the guitar from The Clash Songbook II, which is that album plus a few bits and pieces Pretty much every band of that era started off doing at least 1 Ramones number. The band I was in did 'Let's Dance'...
The recent release of a compilation of his solo music has reminded me just what a great performer Joe Strummer was
