I'm sure that I posted this before, but it's still both hilarious and impressive, so here it is again:
White Rabbits baby..... I love them both. The Damned's 12" version, as featured here, is one of 4 vinyl versions that I own and probably the best. The discordant piano at the end is pure genius from a band about to break free of their imposed punk rock limitations....
Releasing this in April proved they didn't have any punk sensibilities, although they did piss in the Blue Peter garden
It's only 1 week until the first new Damned album in over a decade. Mrs B and I are very excited. We don't get out as much as we used to, you see. Here's the video for the single release. It manages not to show how old they are, by showing them in relief only, in the dark. Also, it's been over-produced, to a point where only Dave's voice sounds anything like them. No matter, it sounded great live and there's bound to be some winners on it.......
Just booked my tickets for Eddie & The Hot Rods, 6th July at the 100 Club. A snip at £17.50 but a whole £4 more than the UK Subs at the same venue in May. Really, boys? I shall expect them to do this.... I tend to think that someone else did a better version, when Paul Gray brought the track with him in 1980....I reckon the Captain will be at the gig, so I shall buy him a pint and ask him...
Love the Doors. When I was 18, I was in digs with 2 northerners - from Gateshead and Mansfield. They hated punk, apart from The Stranglers and I couldn't abide Yes or John Lennon. The Doors, Stones, Dylan and Hendrix were about all we could agree on, especially this track...now done properly here. This isn't a studio track, it was recorded live for TOGWT and played live around 1986. ****ing brilliant, boys.
At the height of their fame, The Damned had the problem that Rat had kicked out the main songwriting talent in The Captain and Paul Gray. So, lots of covers....some good..... ....some very good....... .....and some just beautiful.
Guess what we're up to this summer.... please log in to view this image Okay, Joe was a Chelsea fan and Mick loves Queens Park Rangers but nobody's perfect and my daughter's learning it for her Grade III drum exam, so, it's worth another listen...
Not a favourite but worth putting up here because it seems to be introduced by Micky 'Horse Torturer' Quinn... ...or is it that bloke Bob Carolgees, who used to work with that spitting puppet.....No, not Jamie Carragher, Spit the Dog.
It ain't June 6th but it is D Day......Damned Day.....the day that we've all been looking forward to.....the first new studio album in over 10 years is out today, Friday 13th [what other date?] and being delivered to chez Brian in the morning. Here's the title track from their recent performance in Bournemouth and rather good it is, too.... In celebration, I've booked tickets to see them in Southampton in August, when they make up for the gig Dave couldn't make originally, in February, through illness. Sorry, it's now all sold out.
