Craig Johnston was called up to the England squad.

Could you also explain why Blackburn's squad was mostly homegrown when Kenny won the premiership with them then, as there would obviously be no excuses about a European ban at that time?

Craig Johnston was an Australian, who was born in South Africa.
He essentially turned down his own country to play (or not) for England, because the Aussies were crap at the time.
I'm sure that you're aware of his, "surfing for England", comment.

Blackburn's team was mainly British for two reasons.
The first is that the Premier League was lagging behind the main European leagues because of the effects of the ban and having less money.
The second and probably more important reason, is that that there was a limit on overseas players in effect.
Absolutely nothing to do with any desire to promote British talent, as you're trying to suggest.

Where did I say that <doh> The whole thing about British/Foreign players started when Chirpy claimed that Dalglish was bringing in British "carthorses" which meant we wouldn't be seeing good football anymore. I refuted that claim by saying our most attractive side according to most older fans was the one that had a lot of homegrown players. I could've gone on to say that Man Utd have had loads of recent success by having a spine of mainly British players, or atleast a spine that can converse well in the same language (English).

Like who? I don't see much difference between their "legends" and ours, to be honest.

I hate to back the ludicrous Scouser, but a large number of Liverpool's greats are attacking players.
Rush, Dalglish, Toshack, Heighway, Keegan, Barnes, Hunt and even the likes of Fowler, Gerrard and (amusingly) Owen in more recent years.

His point about the homegrown players is moot though, as everyone had to have them.
Did they just appear to be a more attractive side at the time, due to the complete lack of foreign flair?

Well we'll see who the thoroughbred is and who is on the economy oats when the season kicks off. My money is on Torres to eclipse the ponytailed buffoon you signed to replace him. Raul. My comment was more about the fact that you have a Spanish username and support what used to be a Spanish club for the most part, but no more.

1st comment on this WUM attempt.

As for a stand out player, we had the PFA player of the year - Gareth Bale and a certain dutchman signed from Real Madrid on deadline day last year.

Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing are good solid players but not good enough if you want to win the title.

That's not providing any evidence that Liverpool's greats are known for being hard working and defensive, Lidls.

If you're going to turn this into a Scouse/Manc slanging match, then please take it elsewhere.

It wasn't a WUM attempt, I was giving my honest opinion on why you didn't finish in the top 4, my second comment was a bit of a WUM though, to be fair. I said you lacked star quality in vital positions e.g Centre back and Upfront where you have 'decent' players but nothing world class (IMO!!!).

    Of course he did, CH.
He had to think long and hard to try and find one where his team hasn't had a sequence of 'favourable' decisions, though! <laugh>

Every Spurs fan knows that we didn't finish in the top 4 because of our strikers and lack of reliable centre backs though.
Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion, we don't need another 'Captain Obvious' on here

Fair enough, I have a sneaky feeling Carroll will surprise a few people though!

I was replying to the OP who was suggesting that it was partly down to lack of rotation and playing half fit players, I was merely disagreeing with that!
