or another take on it
So glad you guys have rallied around to save this serious thread, and to prevent it from be overrun by wumsters. Onwards and upwards in this comp. So looking forward to the Final, now.
Progress in any cup competition is good. Personally I hope Spurs make it to the final so you guys have extra games and are tired for the race for 4th. Though you said that spurs are the best London team left in europe? Chelsea and Arsenal aren't out (though it's hard to see arsenal progressing) and their squads/status put them ahead of spurs in the order of London sides. But this is just a wum thread in general.
Ahem! What makes you say this is a wum thread? I expressly stated that there was to be no wumming. If you have any evidence of wumming, please report it to the nearest mod, and the appropriate action will be taken.
Like anyone else could do better against Bayern and Barca. The only embarrassment is Man U. The rest are doing as well as they can but it's difficult when you play in a weak league where the competition isn't as strong because the step up in the CL is difficult to come to terms with.
Bayern are absolutely walking their league, as their competition are nowhere near their level. Your argument makes absolutely no sense off the back of that.
If I was HIAG, I would be enjoying a "bite" Lol! Comment was mostly said with tongue in cheek but I did admire Ferguson for his belief in attacking football, even if it was naive at times. The current crop of English teams would rather try and nullify the opposition even if Chelsea, City and the goons have attacking players to take advantage if they weren't so concerned by the opposition, City especially as they completely changed their system and handed the tie to Barca. Not to mention the Spanish league which suffers from being weak overall and in terms of being competitive. Bayer Leverkusen have been regularly humped in the CL (even by Utd!) yet are a leading team in the Bundesliga. When Porto won the CL, they done so from a weak league. When Fergie won the CL in 1999, that season teams like Derby, Boro and Leicester top 10 and a lack of quality challenging behind Utd. The standard of a domestic league has no bearing on a teams performance in Europe so I also can't understand the logic behind DL's point.
Chelsea were an embarrassment when they won the CL. Playing non-football or anti football, whatever you want to call it.
No doubt it lowers your game having to brush past the likes of Spurs. Funny you've dropped points two of the last two games against us...
I'd love to know how the Bundesliga's supposed to be a tougher test for Bayern, when the only game that they've lost in any competition this season was against a Premier League club. Their current domestic record is P:27, W:25, D:2, L:0, GF:82, GA:11, GD:+71. They're currently on a 15 game winning streak in the league and they're 20 points clear.
Is it also the league that if it is to be the strongest, the points difference between top and bottom should be the closest?...I distinctly recall a buffoon saying this, as it is a comment which is absolutely correct, and completely undoes his own argument. You see the points difference between top n bottom in the Bundesliga is 49 points, oddly the same points difference as La Liga. The PL on the otherhand has only 42 points separating top v bottom. I think the buffoon, still can't think of his name, is going to have to re-clarify just what he means!
"Is it also the league that if it is to be the strongest, the points difference between top and bottom should be the closest?" Homework assignment for PowerSpurs ??
Thats a bit harsh RDBD, I wouldn't say Power's a buffoon! I'm not referring to any fans of ours, its a rival.....name still escapes me.
"Thats a bit harsh RDBD" He would at least produce some basic stattery strongly supporting/refuting the claim. As opposed to merely repeating the claim ad nauseum.
Hard to say what the best league is. The Prem for me is very entertaining. Also unpredictable as it's far too hard to call who'll win the league, along with who gets top 4 and who gets relegated, competition for places is much stronger. La Liga has the two global superstars in it's league and can usually serve up some very stylish football. Atletico Madrid's emergence as a real title challenger has been interesting to watch. Bundesliga has the best team in world football at the moment along with it's recent opponent in the Champions League final. Also houses some other strong sides and along with La Liga/ Spain, seems to have a conveyor belt of young, exciting, home grown talent coming through.
I'm much more interested in statistics that give insight into tactical choices (eg whether crosses are a good way of scoring goals) than ones that support a pissing contest of which league is better than another
If we're talking overall standard and excitement then the English league is quite clearly the best league but English teams have a real problem dealing with foreign teams passing game and style of football so some fans get excited and believe if a foreign team beats an English team then it's proof their domestic league is stronger.
