to win the CL you have to play 9 matches from Feb, to Win the EL you have to win 11...hardly a fixture problem, 2 extra matches over 3 months. Wasn't a dig at gooner4ever It is the general view of most fans from most clubs The league cup is called a mickey mouse trophy, when knocked out of the fa cup fans say they don't mind cos it means they can concentrate on the league (survival, top 4 or promotion). Back in the day you never got this bollocks...their were 3 European Trophies which were all rated but cos of greed we now have a CL made up mainly of non champions which is pretty much a cash cow. The importance of the CL is purely financial and imo it is killing football. But like I say, I am a grumpy old git and clearly in a minority
Overall I agree with your point. A trophy is a trophy and should be celebrated. I'm just agreeing with G4E that Arsenal didn't really want to be in the Europey league, when we can be playing champions league football.
As I have said in other threads I didn't want EL - because I didn't want the Thursday night games as it seems to have an adverse affect on teams, look how knackered Spurs were against Newcastle !
Your reasoning - although you cowardly stop short of saying it - is that "it's better to drop out of the CL, not have the worry of trying to win the Europa, and concentrate on winning the EPL." The reason it's cowardly is because you know that if you'd said that, we'd all be waiting for AFC to fail to win the title, and when you failed to do it, you know that we'd all be on your case, calling you a "wum-fail!" Shameful. I have little doubt that Arsenal will finish in the top 4, simply because those teams that ought to dispose you are playing so ****e this season. However, my argument is, and remains, that a CL place to AFC is a complete waste of time and an embarrassment to English football, because AFC is only ever there to make up the numbers. AFC is one of those teams that the big boys hope they draw, because they know you are an easy bye. I know you're not going to like what I'm saying, PIXIE, but that's tough. The truth is the truth.
Arsenal are trying to win the title, regardless of which european comp we're in. Not sure how's that's a 'wum fail', I guess it shows how you're clutching at straws though.
Disagree...weve lost just once on the weekend after 6 EL games this season and the is no difference between playing Wednesday / Saturday (which would be the case if we were in CL) and the EL schedule of Thursday / Sunday. We also rested Rose, Walker, Vertongen, Kane, Eriksen and Lamela barely played an hour on Thursday...we were just poor on Sunday
Yet your fans have posted comments that they looked tired and lacked energy! Only saying what what they are saying
The performance was flat, but I can't see how it was connected to a game that most of them didn't play in. Any post-Europa League issues have generally come from playing too many fixtures close together without many changes to personnel. Playing Monday/Thursday/Sunday finishing with your lot, for example. The Newcastle game had more of a break (Sat/Thu/Sun) and more rotation.
Does it matter? Every Spurs fan I know or have heard comment says exactly the same thing - we were dreadful against the Toon. What else is there to say?
I thought Dier & Kane, especially, looked dead on their feet after an hour. Put that down to what you like, but they looked very lackadaisical.
He's been a revelation, especially as he looked bloody awful in that role in pre-season. I've been very impressed with his application and attitude, regardless of which position he's been played in.
As I said in another thread I think both Arsenal and Spurs will be providing most of the players for England soon ! And I did ask do Spurs have a English goalkeeper as that is all that's missing!
Spurs don't have an English goalkeeper, unfortunately. French, Dutch and an Australian youth player. Even our last U21 to leave was Scottish.
We don't either, what a shame - can you imagine how the other boards would go into meltdown if Arsenal and Spurs was the England team
