    The face scratching incident?
That's what he got booked for and what the foul was given for. He clearly and needlessly tripped Vertonghen.

Game would have been over long ago had Toress been sent off when he decided to scratch Vert's left eye out..judging from how you were on the back foot after he was eventually sent off.

We were in complete control of the game from 35 minutes onwards.

Torres should have gone earlier but you can't blame Dean for not seeing something nobody else saw at the time. When Dean was pushed to make a judgement 50/50 call he went in Spurs favour, which went in theme with the match.

I'll always respect referees that don't give decisions they can't see, but one thing that annoys me is guessing (I.e Mata goal v Spurs at Wembley and also Torres red v Man U last season).

i think chelsea would of nicked that had torres not of been sent off, i honestly thought he was carding the spurs player for pretending that torres had hit him in the mouth !! terrible decision. i hope that mata showed jose what he wanted when he came on because we looked a different team. I think hazard is playing to stationary, his greatest asset is his speed and ability to skin defenders but he just seems to get clobbered before he can get out of first gear.

On reflection I think a point wasn't too bad, especially given the 3pm results.

Spurs got 5 yellow cards...hardly the sign of us getting all the decisions in our favour.
As for Torres ... if suarez had done that to Terry and not got sent off for it chelsea would have been livid
Torres should have been sent off for violent conduct .... for the happy one to claim vertongen dived when tripped by torres was just plain stupid...as was his fake outrage of diving and play acting...he never once criticised drogba during his first spell.
As for the match I thought you lot were in control of the 2nd half and we edged the first.
Thought a draw was about right

I agree but I'm not so sure they were their for the taking, certainly not Chelsea anyway. It's only the media that have talked up a "crisis" at Chelsea. In actuality our domestic results haven't been that bad. We were always going to be very tough to beat and normally are for Spurs. In contrast, Spurs went into this game full of confidence and with a rock solid defence. I'm not so sure they were there for the taking either.

Maybe at the business end of the season the result might have been different but a point was decent for both sides given what happened in the 3pm kick offs. Neither manager loses face either, media were desperate for a story and won't get it thanks to City and United's defeats.

Almost every non-Chelsea/Spurs fan I know said it would be a nailed on draw before the game and that's reflected in the forums I've read too.

All in all given our slow start to the season I would've taken a point if it was offered at the start - by the sounds of it we were lucky to go in at the break one down but after THO saw the light by putting on Mata we seized the initiative.

Encouraged by this performance and by our resilience once Torres was gone previous seasons would've seen Spuds & anyone else snatch it at the death. think both teams will be thereabouts at the business end.

Disappointing not to take our usual three points off spurs.

Hopefully we will hammer them at the Bridge later in the seasons

I love how things get blown out of all proportion, its gone from a slight scratching to Torres nearly gouged his eye out. FFS he hardly touched him and from what I saw only two fingers, one of which was bent. Of course I understand hands on face should not be allowed, but I also think Vertongen knew exactly what he was doing yesterday he was no innocent party.

Chelsea were clearly the better team in both halves IMO. For some of our new signings this was their first PL experience against really top opposition, they now know what they will have to do to bridge the gap. We have the quality to bridge the gap and this game will help us to do that if we honestly take the lessons from it. Getting bogged down in the right and wrongs of the Torres/Verts thing is a waste of time IMO.
