Put in a sieve and rinse in cold water, it doesn't make the rice cold because it has absorbed the boiling water but it cleans the starch off <ok>

That I can do Diego, it's the cooking after that I can't lol. It has to be on a really low heat so takes ages anyway, but it either ends up still a bit wet or burnt at the bottom. I've given up and dedicated my life to naan bread (and that of the family).

I've found the best way is to wash the rice until the water runs clear, then cover the rice in plenty of cold water, add salt and bring to the boil. Once it boils drain the water and put a tight lid on pan (I put foil on then lid). Set gas to lowest setting (yes where it's barely on) and let it cook for about 15 minutes. Check rice at top is cooked and remove. Pour cooked rice into a tray or big bowl and fluff with a fork

    That's the best way imo

Alternatively wash rice, then pour in cold water. Use your forefinger. The 3 sections of your finger, make sure water is over the first section. Boil, then reduce heat to lowest setting and let cook as above

With the first method after rice has boiled boiled and you have drained it, before returning rice to pan, add a little oil to pan, libe bottom with sliced potatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper, then add rice and cook with tight lid on. Once rice is cooked turn upside down and you get a layer of crusty potato

Rice has to be the easiest thing to cook ever but I could never understand why people have nightmares over it?

Bit like an omelette I think - anyone can cook one of those too, but if you go for a job in the kitchen of a top hotel or restaurant, the chef may ask you to cook him an omelette as they are exceptionally difficult to do well.

yeah, rice is a ****, every way I've been told to cook it has failed to produce the fluffy, separated rice. The best results I had were from filiing the water to an inch above the dried rice and leaving it to boil away, you get some burnt at the bottom but the rest is borderline acceptable. I stopped bothering with it as I prefer chips which are tastier and not so much a pain in the arse. Sweet things are more my forte' though, fruit pies, heavy sponge puddings, cookies and cakes. I used ot go around my mums and get my nieces and nephews to help make things, but got barred as everyone started getting fat.

Yeh I was a desserts man, only cooked sweet stuff and that was for the kids <ok> jam and cream scones, profiteroles, individual trifles, sponge puddings too.

A foolproof way to cook it without burning is to cook it in a tray in the oven. You’ll need 250 grams of Basmati rice and 500 millilitres of water/stock depending on your taste. Put in a pre heated oven at 190c or 180 fan assisted and cover tightly with foil and cook for 25 minutes. Take out, remove the foil and fluff it up with a fork. 100% every time.

Rip an inch of the top of the packet packet, open microwave door, close door, set for 1 min 50, wait for ping, open door, rip packet fully open. Stick on plate. 100% every time <ok>
