I ****ed my left ankle and knee playing football. I've always been **** at doing the physio which hasn't helped long term.

I reckon a third of the male population about 30 is suffering from some sort of football related long term injury of some sort!

i know a few lads who have had keyhole surgery on bad knees...they don't recommend it...it didn't enhance or prolong the footy for them.
I had keyhole on my knee. Put it off for years. Realised I had to get it done when I was in so much pain on my walk to work that I had to sit down on Blackfriars Bridge and wait for the cartilage to dislodge from the joint.

I was told I'd need a clean up every 5 years but haven't had to go back in nearly 20.

I've just never got the bug. I want to be able to but I find it a bit boring and it hasn't gripped me like it clearly does other people.

Plus I've got all sorts of things in my knees, ankle and shins that I give in to too easily.

I find jogging really boring and also have niggles.

Give power walking a go mate.

Somewhere which is nice.

I've got a dog so it helps plus quality ear phones.

Either that or I drag a mate along and just chat about birds and stuff.

You burn loads of calories. You'd be surprised.

I had the option when I was about 28 but the doctor told me that the position that the problem was in meant very little chance of me recovering, I struggled with it for about 10 years and then jacked it all in and I go for a walk now and that's it as far as it goes physically.

I had a fun footy career though no moaning.

Think us amateurs all have ankle/knee probs. Me too..i kind of fell out of love with playing because i wasnt doing my immense prowess any justice..i havent kicked a ball in anger for about 5 years, but i still hope to do so...when i lose the excess...had standards on the pitch fam.

Trying Sharpe, been to the Gym twice in a week...that's progress.

Motivation is my killer.....still....but trying...still not in that happy place where jogging is no issue.

****ing hell mate, the thread is Spurlock's gym, what kind of example is that to set?

Seriously though, if you're waiting to feel 100% ready, it'll never come, there'll always be something putting you off, because you don't get the 'addiction' if you like, until you start seeing results. The first few are ****, then they get easier.

I always focus on the hardest things to do, such as dips, pull ups, deadlifts, squats... the way I see it, once I can do them, then I can do everything.

I remember attempting dips for the first time, I think I got about 1.5 reps out, it was embarrassing. Pull ups I couldn't do any, so had to start with a resistance band for assistance... then one day you can do 3 sets of 10 unassisted and it feels great.

I love a good walk, used to do a lot of mountains but it's one of the things that has fallen by the wayside as we've had more kids. Just don't have the time at weekends and I play golf so can't do everything. My weekend round of golf is my walk essentially.

Where I'm working currently is lovely though and has a long flat estuary/coastal path that I could go on. It's where I plan to run tonight.

No excuses really, I'm away here all week with none of the ties I get when at home.

Dips are tricky. I do them of the edge of an exercise bench.

Usually 3 sets of 10 in a work out session.

Back of my arms need work but its a damn size easier when you're not carrying too much additional weight.

6 months ago I would probably be able to 8-10 max.

Yes Tel!

Im at the 'thinking about it' stage with the dips, like you say...its embarrassing because i know im going to look like a ****ing pleb when i attempt it...trying to figure out when the Gym is at its quietest..before i go for it!:emoticon-0105-wink:

I agree about the motivation, because after years of pondering im still pondering...however i can feel the irritation inside me about being a mentally weak mofo...its going to happen soon...i can tell...im going to snap!

A keyhole success story for the lads to motivate themselves with.

Nice one Stanley!

I was referring to chest dips mate, but tricep bench dips are also punishing.

Try bringing your knees up, so your feet are closer to you, that will alleviate a lot of the weight, it's a natural cheat.

Nobody is watching mate, but if you're that concerned, just use the assisted dip machine, most gyms have them.

It'll look like the pic below, if your gym don't have them, get a resistance band, wrap it round the two 'handles' and kneel on it.

It's a compound exercise, just jump in at the deep end, otherwise you avoid it and become a hard gainer.
