My back has been ****ed for weeks. Unfortunately, on and off, it always will be, as will my knee. So I haven't been able to train as much as I'd like for a while as I've needed too many rest days (I like to run every day with maybe a Saturday or Sunday off so I can feast in the morning and drink in the afternoon). Fingers crossed the back has been OK for a few days and I had a decent run today. I'd like to get properly fit again as I'm running out of time.

I gave up on being fit many years ago, I have to many injury problems. I just try to walk often and eat health now and then.
I ran at county level, played footy at a good standard and enjoyed it all so I don't feel like I missed out.
Footy in the forces at the level I played at is considered a duty. I'd go into work and a fax would arrive telling me I'm required for a training camp or tournament and off I'd go instead of working.
Did that for any 5 years, superb.

Good thread Spurlock <ok>

I'm in the process of getting back into my fitness routine, so might have something to add over the coming weeks.

A good soundtrack is vital for me, and a mentality to not just turn up and move weight from a to b, but to get the most out of what is usually 25 minutes of hell.

I love that bit about 25 minutes.

Does my nut in when people mention going to the gym for a couple of hours, like it means more. If you train hard for that length of time, you are doing way to much.

If I have a free run of the gym, I do either 5 or 6 exercises, with 3 sets of 12 reps for each exercise. I have a break of 45 seconds between each set of 12 and a 2 minute break when I change exercise. I can be done in 20-30minutes.

I usually take longer. But then I'm older.

Usually about an hour of free weights & machines. Then 20 mins running or rowing.

My workouts are always short and intense mate.

You can train hard or you can train long, you can't do both.

Eat as much as possible as often as possible whilst doing as little as possible. Works for me :)
