‘Doing a Shane long’ has become shorthand in my house for things that don’t even involve football. And that’s my kids doing, not me.
Yes you’re right. It’s perfectly reasonable for Bill Hill to moan about last night’s performance (in a game we expected absolutely nothing from) and focus on how **** we have been, ignoring the upbeat mood created by having a new coach who looks to be just what we need. You and Bill focus on how **** we’ve been, while Tom and I look forward to the hope and belief we can change under a new coach. Carry on
Well spotted. Nobody else had seen that... #blueink If you care to follow the flow of the chat, you joined in when Tom called out Bill who moaned about last night’s game. You then questioned Tom, thus inferring you thought Bill was right to moan about last night’s game. That’s why I commented and possibly the othe chap too.
I think last night's game will have made clear to the new manager a couple of pertinent issues; We're a bit rubbish at either end of the pitch, and Our midfield isn't great. But he probably knew that.
In my experience of managing teams (not football!) and turning performance around, it’s important to quickly assess the issues and deal with each of them one at a time, starting with the one that can make the biggest impact first. Ralph! Extra defensive training and no bloody zonal marking!
Or just score more goals !?!? I don’t like zonal marking either but have we actually conceded many from dead balls?
At various times last night we were 18th, 19th and 20th. Can't believe we lost easily and still aren't bottom. The defensive problem might just be helped by not changing to system every other game.
I find I have my most informative and intelligent conversations during the day. I work from home and there are only two Chihuahuas and me here.
Every time I trick my son's dog and he falls for it, I tell him 'ape beats dog yet again'. Nice to be smarter than something.
Just watched some of the highlights. I'm a big Matt Targett fan but he had a mare last night. Lost Kane for the first and failed to clear for the third. But it was Spurs second that I thought summed up Saints or recent times. A poor clearance by Davis but 3 players had a chance to block Moura's shot - Gabbi, Yosh and possibly Armstrong. All three turned away from the ball to block with their back. Something that I always noticed never happened under Poch or RK. Players faced the ball full on providing the largest possible barrier and didn't seem to care of they got hit in the face from a couple of yards. It's that sort of mentality we need to get back.
What I couldn’t understand was that for every corner Kane and Dier were being marked by Targett and JWP.
Btw, Davis is done sadly. His legs are gone,he isn't good enough to play for us and that is saying something.
