Rugby players are no angels but they do respect the ref by and large. A different culture I guess. They aren't entitled multi millionaires either.

I don’t follow rugby but I think that’s proper grilled into them from a young age at grassroots as well that referee decision is final and that’s it.

There needs to be the same respect shown in football now and it’ll slowly work it’s way up the ladder.

But I don’t buy into this fact that swearing is the issue. They can put delays on that kind of stuff to bleep out any language. Can make it a standard rule that anyone talking to the referee while a var check is on going (unless ref speaks to them) it’s an Auto yellow. It will soon stop.

Like kicking the ball away now. Players do it but will slowly stop.

How often do players take tops off while celebrating now compared to before? Odd one still does it but players aren’t that stupid. They’ll soon learn

Yeah, possibly - it just isn't very clear from the transcript who "he" is.

I think the only thing we can take from this is that the rules need to be changed so it can be brought back within a reasonable time from the restart. There may be cases where the error isn't immediately apparent until then.

One thing I don’t fully get is I that I understand that been saying law says once they restarted they can’t stop it and go back.

However, what happens when there’s a throw in and linesman signals one way and player takes it and ref disagrees so blows whistle and brings it back?

What about when a player has taken a quick free kick and ref brings it back?

I know scenarios are a touch different but surely that’s bringing the game back once it’s restarted?

it's pretty clear to me that this is a complete rush trying to keep up and keep up and rush to a position, followed by a complete panic and finishing with a complete abdication of responsibility.

I note no further tapes are released to protect the ref on pitch.

a) totally unclear directions from ref onfield. no acknowledgement of where the ball is at or any sort of position is given. the ref is totally divorced from the var who are trying to watch all things live and make comments etc.

b) absolute rush under pressure to get quick lines etc.

c) zero protocol of how to communicate actual findimg to the ref. aka goal is onside or goal is offside.

d) total and utter abandonment of responsibility at the end. I cannot do anything is untrue.

you can tell the ref what just happened.

as you didn't you let everyone down.

in the end rules or no rules what a ref decides is final and that ref can decide to tell everyone what went on live right then and clarify but play on or he can just go back and take the consequences.

it's very clear that this technology isn't up to the expectations and the protocols are not up to it either, even if your desire is to "back your man"

You could have used this tape to show how hard the job is and how the Premier league needs to help by enabling the semi auto offside system

you could rewrite the protocol to require clesr onfield decision communication amd recording as a prerequired step to auto tech.

you could rewrite the protocol to communicate the finding clearly to the referee and require him to confirm his call.

you could do a lot of things rather than assemble a slew of friendly faces to defend you and attack lfc.

All those decisions are pre var so every single team will have had **** ups. Every team will have had **** ups in var as well over numerous subjective decisions (heck could say offside wasn’t even worse decision as Jota first yellow was an even shorter decision). But this isn’t comparable as it’s not a subjective decision, they did the check, got the right decision then just miss communicated it. So yes, this needs to be raised to ensure something like that doesn’t happen again

One thing seen mentioned is there is no audio of Michael Oliver (4th official) who is referred to as Oli in the clips. Do they tell him what’s happened to delay things? Surely var have to tell someone there and let the officials at the actual pitch make the call if they should stop the game.

"can't do anything" is cowardly. They'll knew it was onside and they knew they'd made a mistake. They would have been applauded by everyone had they taken the game back and given the goal. Even fair Spurs fans would have acknowledged it was the right thing to do.

As I've said, if you want to play whataboutery we can do it all night - we've already had one player incorrectly sent off this season and VAR didn't intervene (though the FA reversed the decision) and I'm sure it's happened for us and against us. But before we move on to the actual issue - the Sissoko pen, oh **** off. He stuck his arm up like John Travolta - a more unnatural position of the arm you'd never find, and at that time in Europe they were giving them every time the ball hit a hand anywhere in the box. We had one given against Klavan the season before in Roma when he was literally running alongside their player who wellied it at him from a yard and it was given.

But the point is, much as ALL of us have tales of woe regarding VAR, if you can't see why this is different you're just being either deliberately obtuse or you're a ****ing moron, and as I've known you for a long time on the Prem Board (or did) and once got myself banned fighting your corner back in the days of Saxton, I'm saying it's the former, not the latter. The reason this ****-up needed to be played out openly and transparently was that this wasn't a difference of opinion - they completely ****ed up the most basic principles of their procedures. People on more than brain surgeons to watch a screen and draw straight lines on it don't even know which way the decision they're reviewing has gone? And they (not the individual, but the organisation) can't be held accountable?

This is the horseshit we were fed after the Pickford-Van Dijk debacle when the whole world and his wife knew they'd ****ed up on their procedures then, but because they weren't held publicly accountable (they didn't even apologise) they got away with a quiet word to the club (that Liverpool said they never actually received), and a 'move along now, and let it go' brush under the carpet ****e. But three months later Golden Boy Oliver has a little chortle with the S*n, knowing full well that we wouldn't read it and would have to wait until it filtered out into the other parts of the media, admitting that they 'got the procedure mixed up': meaning he actually didn't know the rules of Serious Foul Play.

And THAT is why this issue had to be highlighted - the PGMOL has absolutely no interest nor incentive to improve their procedures and protocols unless held to account and pressured to do so. They're a self-serving cartel with more power than any of the clubs, not some ****ing charity of well-meaning amateurs. By all means, we all argue over decisions, but their decision is final. But this wasn't about a decision they made - it was about one they didn't. And, much as you can cherish your extra three points this time, next time it might be you too.

This incident was a farce ... if you look at the spurs thread I commented at half time that it should have been a goal.

And wolves did kick up a fuss...but skysports had **** all to say about it cos they weren't covering it and the rest of the media glossed over it.

On the issue of the goal I agree that it was a huge and stupid cocktail up and unacceptable.

But do not agree that it is a conspiracy against pool. Sheffield Utd had a goal that crossed the line ruled out cos of a technical failure with goal line technology and even though it was seen on TV VAR was not allowed to intervene cos of protocol...think that effectively relegated them.

I don't go on other teams board to piss people off.
Was just expressing a view but am obviously not doing it well as you think I am wumming so I'll leave you all in peace

Exactly the same thing? The on-field decision was not overturned because there was no camera angle to do so. Appalling. Probably why we were fuming too, but didn't kick up a fuss, when Saka did the same thing to us at The Emirates last October when he scored the first (offside) goal in a 3-2 win. Or United's goal at West Ham scored by Pogba a few seasons ago that looped out of play in the build-up, but wasn't disallowed because there was no camera angle there either. Abysmal. None of these were because a highly-paid VAR operative didn't know the basics of his job though - he didn't even know which way the decision he was reviewing had gone, Can you not see how this is different? Can I just ask which Wolves game you're referring to - was it the FA Cup game in January?
