But tbf. This year or next? This year both Arsenal and Chelsea are unknown quantities. Could be the perfect storm for a new stadium. Or they could finish 6th and end up selling Cheeses at the Lane Market. We'll see. I like risk taking personally.
Have the 1882 tickets sold out do you know? Haven’t checked in ages but the last time I did there were still a considerable amount left. I actually said a few weeks back how the club took the piss with that, the 1882 movement at Europa matches was really successful, created a great atmosphere in games against Moldovan farmers which usually no one would give a **** about, so for the club to then name their new expensive seats ‘1882’ in the atmospheric part of the new stadium is just a real kick in the bollocks to the working class fans that made 1882 such a name within the club.
So just heard a report that Spurs will now have to play all their home games at Wembley due to PL rules... That's a massive **** up?
I haven't checked it, but I doubt they've sold out. Ridiculously expensive. Our ticket prices are a false economy anyway, in my opinion. If we'd have kept them at the Wembley prices even, then it would've generated good will with the fans and they were still well up there. Turning the single tier end into something unique and memorable would be worth more to the club in branding then a few quid from the fans. It's a poor decision, even if you're only looking at it from a financial perspective. Take Dortmund's Yellow Wall as an example. They gain support from all over the world from fans who see their matches and can sense that atmosphere. People go to matches there just to experience it and enjoy the spectacle. How many clubs have that?
Dortmund (and the rest of the bundesliga I believe) also have ridiculously cheap season tickets. Their cheapest is around £120, that’s roughly what we pay for 2-3 games. Their most expensive is about £720, which is pretty much our cheapest. They understand that milking fans will ruin atmospheres and therefore ensure that pricing is very much affordable for the working class. It’s no wonder why the German support in general is often extremely vocal and atmospheric, they have true fans, not ****ing day trippers looking for an Instagram picture.
It’s all about money and the bottom line nowadays. An article in today’s Times by one of the most respected football journalists chronicles the Utd saga. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...amaged-by-their-political-pantomime-lzfvmndvc
The Germans organised a fan strike a while ago when some Bundesliga clubs tried to raise prices. It was called something like Twenty Is Plenty, as they demanded that the prices were kept to about €20. Their average ticket is €23, while ours is something like £50. They kicked off about Monday night games too, which is still ongoing. It was blocked for years, but they're doing some now. La Liga are utterly taking the piss this year, having already staggered every single match across the weekend. One on Friday, four on Saturday and Sunday and one on Monday, all at different times. As if that wasn't bad enough, they're now only organising the fixtures about three weeks beforehand. You know who you're playing on any given weekend, but not the day or time of the fixture.
In the PL, now? Not many. Liverpool, maybe. Man U, maybe. Certainly not the Emirates or Stamford Bridge. Villa Park still has the Holt End, but they’re not in the PL anymore. Saints have twice the crowd at St Mary’s than we did in the last few seasons at the Dell - and half the atmosphere.
It's going that way, though there's still a bit of life in the lower leagues - smaller crowds but more noise and humour. Undoubtedly the games at St Mary's that have generated the best atmosphere were all in League One and the Championship
It certainly was when we were winning. Then again, even when we were **** in the Championship and everyone was angry, the atmosphere was intense. Remember staying up on the last day at home to Sheffield Utd? Even when we were a farce, we generated real emotion. I remember the Northam singing " Harry and Jim, in red n white!" one week, and "who the **** is Harry Redknapp?" the next, without skipping a beat.
No I missed that game as I had to answer bail Miss those days in general though. A few more years so I can tick off all the big clubs then I'm happy to go back
