Pompey are apparently interested in signing 25 year old Accrington Stanley striker 5' 11" tall Colby Bishop, who scored 15 goals (12 in League One) last season. MK Dons were also keen to sign him but instead have signed Will Griggs on a free transfer.

Portsmouth have signed former Tottenham goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi on an initial one-year deal. He stands 6' 2" in height.

The 21-year-old was released by Spurs earlier in the summer, having never made a first-team appearance for the Premier League club.

Oluwayemi, who has a further 12-month option on his Portsmouth deal, featured for Pompey in a pre-season friendly win over Havant & Waterlooville.

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley said the keeper has "plenty of potential".

"He's an incredible shot-stopper and is also good with his feet, so we're delighted to bring him to the club," Cowley told the club website.

Oluwayemi will be the backup for loan signing Josh Griffiths, obviously impressing head coach Danny Cowley earlier in the summer when on trial.

The move pushes Alex Bass even closer to the exit door, with either a loan or permanent departure now inevitable. Highly-rated young stopper Toby Steward is likely to head out on loan for first-team experience.

Pompey are running the rule over ex-Crystal Palace winger Brandon Pierrick ahead of the new campaign.

The 6' tall former Crystal Palace man was part of Danny Cowley’s squad for tonight’s clash at Leyton Orient.

Pierrick became the Eagles’ second youngest player to feature in the Premier League when he played against Norwich City in 2020.

The 20-year-old joined Danish top flight side Vejle Boldklub last summer and has also had a spell in the SPL with Kilmarnock.

Pierrick made two substitute Premier League outings among three Palace appearances in his time at Selhurst Park.

Pompey are in the market for a new winger after Marcus Harness’ exit, with Pierrick able to operate down both flanks.

Good news ! At last, Pompey have secured the signing of striker Colby Bishop on a three year contract, with the option of a further year. He should be pretty useful alongside Joe Piggot in attack this coming season. Must say, the new Pompey home shirt looks rather smart !

Pompey have completed the signing of experienced defender Michael Morrison.

The 34-year-old 6' 1" centre-back has put pen to paper on a one-year deal after leaving Reading at the end of last season.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “We’re delighted to sign Michael, who brings a wealth of experience to our squad.

“He’s a fantastic character and will be able to offer great support to the younger members of our group.

“Michael has been a captain pretty much everywhere that he’s been and brings leadership qualities that will help drive our standards on and off the pitch.

“He’s been very successful in the Championship and has played regularly in that division over the past few years.

“He can sense danger and has got an excellent ability to read play, while he loves to defend and his organisational skills are great.”

Morrison spent three years at Reading, making 113 appearances for the Championship outfit – with 29 of them coming last season.

He has played in the second tier for Leicester, Charlton and Birmingham, while also winning the League One title with the two former clubs.

Morrison – who began his career with Cambridge – scored for the Foxes when they won a League Cup tie at Fratton Park in September 2010.

In 2011 he had a brief spell with Sheffield Wednesday, where Pompey begin their latest League One campaign on Saturday.

Alex Bass has left Pompey to sign for Sunderland for an undisclosed fee, on a three year contract.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper made 41 senior appearances for the Blues, having progressed through the academy.

He made his debut in a narrow Carabao Cup defeat at Coventry in August 2016 before keeping a clean sheet on his victorious league debut against Peterborough a couple of years later.

Bass spent the second half of last season on loan at Bradford and previous had temporary spells with Salisbury, Torquay and Southend.

Dane Scarlett Signs From Spurs !!
please log in to view this image

Pompey have signed Dane Scarlett on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham.

The 18-year-old forward spent the summer helping England win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship. He has scored 12 goals in 14 internationals so far.

He scored twice against Serbia in the group stages and started the final, as the Three Lions – led by former Pompey coach Ian Foster – battled from behind to beat Israel after extra-time.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “We’re delighted to have Dane with us and we’re really appreciative of Tottenham for trusting us to look after one of their young players.

“He spent the whole of last season with the first team and featured in some of their European fixtures, training every day with world class players.

“He’s a boy who has the world at his feet and comes here after a brilliant summer with England, playing a big part in that success.

“There’s an intelligence beyond his years – both in and out of possession – with the timing of his runs and the movement that allows him to win space behind defenders.

“We think those qualities will carry a real threat and add a different dimension to our team, while against the ball he has an unbelievable work ethic.

“Dane has an infectious energy and I know that the staff at both Tottenham and the England set-up think the world of him.

“This is his first loan and so it won’t be easy because it’s a new experience, but we’re there to support him, like we have done with many young players in the past.

“We’re really looking forward to working with Dane, who’s an outstanding finisher with both feet and his head. He has a ruthlessness that centre-forwards need.”

Scarlett has progressed through the Spurs academy and made his senior debut in a Europa League match against Ludogorets in November 2020.

At the age of 16 years and 247 days, he was the youngest player to have featured in a competitive fixture for the club.

Scarlett was then handed his Premier League bow against West Brom a few months later and has made a total of 10 appearances for the Londoners.

At the end of last season he put pen to paper on a new deal with Tottenham, keeping him at the club until 2026.

Not really Arnhem! Alex Bass is a talented keeper, and a good character, but he apparently doesn't fit in with our manager's way of playing the ball out of defence. He specifically signed our two new keepers to carry out his wishes, and as we have a very talented young academy keeper who has just signed his first pro contract, Alex was surplus to requirements, hence the sale. These things happen in football as you know.

I wish him well in his career at the Stadium of Light, and hope you have a good season <cheers>

Former Everton youth and Burnley defender linked in loan transfer move to Portsmouth

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley is reportedly interested in signing Burnley defender Bobby Thomas on loan.

That is according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who states the Clarets are willing to allow the young 6' 1" centre-back to leave on a temporary basis to gain first-team football. It is suggested Pompey have made an approach to sign the 21-year-old and hope to complete a deal ‘in the next few days’.

Thomas has made just one senior appearance for Burnley, which came in a Carabao Cup win against Millwall in September 2020. The following January, Thomas was sent out on loan to League Two side Barrow and played 21 times for the Bluebirds, scoring his first senior goal in a 2-0 win against Forest Green Rovers.

Portsmouth are "set to sign" Blackpool winger/attacker 5' 9" Owen Dale on a loan deal according to Alan Nixon.

Danny Cowley has been in the market for a wide player following the departure of Marcus Harness to League One rivals Ipswich town with Dale set to fill the void vacated by Harness ideally, albeit on a temporary basis.

The 23-year old secured a permanent move to Bloomfield Road in January, having initially signed for for the Seasiders from boyhood club Crewe Alexandra on deadline day last year. Dale made 15 appearances under Neil Critchley last term, scoring on his debut in a 3-2 comeback win against Reading before netting in a 2-0 triumph against Barnsley in April.

However, with former Pompey boss Michael Appleton returning for a second spell in charge of the Tangerines, it is reported Dale will drop down to the third-tier in a bid to rediscover the form which saw him score 12 goals in 48 games during the 2020/2021 campaign, helping Crewe secure a 12th-placed finish.

Pompey have completed the signing of 24-year-old midfielder Tom Lowery.

The 5' 6" tall Crewe academy graduate has put pen to paper on a three-year deal following his departure from the Railwaymen.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “It’s a fantastic signing for the football club and we’re delighted to have him with us.

“Tom is someone we’ve come up against on many occasions and has been an outstanding player for Crewe for many years.

“He provides unrivalled energy and is very competent technically, so will bring a real creativity to our midfield.

“At 24, he’s still a young man and his ambitions are aligned with ours. We’re impressed with his knowledge of the game and his love for it.

“He has a real motivation to keep improving all the time and these are the qualities that we really like in players.

“Whenever we played against Crewe, he was always the first one we spoke about when doing our analysis.

“He would always find them a real rhythm in games and so we’re certainly pleased to now have him on our side.”

Lowery signed his first professional deal with Crewe in May 2016, making his debut in an EFL Trophy contest with Wolves a few months later.

He was part of the side that finished runners-up in League Two to earn promotion to the third tier in 2019/20.

Lowery left Crewe at the end of last season after scoring 13 goals in a total of 175 appearances for the club.

He was called up for a training camp with the Wales national team last summer ahead of their European Championship campaign.

Liam Vincent has joined Maidstone United on a 28-day loan deal.

The 19-year-old left-back will be looking to gain first team experience after recovering from the shin injury that kept him sidelined for much of last season.

Maidstone won the National League South title last term and will now be competing at the highest level of non-league football.

Pompey are keen to do a deal with Barnet for forward Ephron Mason-Clark.

Blues boss Danny Cowley has identified the 5' 10", 22-year-old winger/striker as someone he wants to add to his attacking ranks.

And efforts are ongoing in a bid to make the move happen before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Cowley has overhauled his forward options this summer with the permanent signing of Colby Bishop and the loan arrivals of Joe Pigott and Dane Scarlett.

A deal for Blackpool winger Owen Dale has also been done, although is yet to be officially confirmed by the club.

Meanwhile, the Pompey manager also sanctioned the sale of Marcus Harness to Ipswich for an undisclosed fee last month.

But a desire to add another permanent member of that group has been something Cowley has been eager to do this window as well.

And with the Blues specifically looking to add youth, pace, power and athleticism into the mix, Mason-Clarke has been identified to do exactly that.

Despite their £500,000 move for Bishop, Pompey have money to spare following Harness’ switch to the Tractor Boys and the departures of high-earners during Cowley’s first full season in charge.

A fee is yet to be agreed with Barnet for a player who came through their youth ranks.

Yet the Blues are determined to get a deal done so that Cowley and his coaching team can start working with the emerging talent.

Mason-Clarke impressed for the Bees in their recent pre-season friendly against the Blues at The Hive last month.

Featuring in the first half, he gave the Pompey defence plenty to think about and operated in various forward roles, which is another attractive quality he can bring to the table.

The Blues’ interest, though, is a long-standing one, with the forward continuing his development at an impressive rate in recent seasons.
