Pompey being linked to 24 year old striker Aaron Collins of Bristol Rovers. He scored 16 goals in 45 league appearances last season, helping them to win automatic promotion back to League One at the first attempt. The 5' 10" striker has one year remaining on his contract, so will cost us a fee.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers Arnhem ! Good luck at Wembley against Wycombe <cheers>

Update: After his excellent performance at Wembley as a right wing back, I very much hope we can pick him up on a free transfer - he would be a great replacement for Mahlon Romeo !!! :emoticon-0148-yes:

    More good news !!

Pompey have taken up the option to extend Louis Thompson’s contract with the club.

The 27-year-old midfielder arrived at Fratton Park last summer after leaving Norwich and made 38 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.

His one goal was certainly a memorable one, with a late strike in February securing all three points at Shrewsbury.

Portsmouth and Derby County race to sign Hartlepool star Luke Molyneux

Portsmouth and Derby County are in the race to sign Hartlepool player of the year Luke Molyneux, Football Insider understands.

The attacking midfielder, 24, is out of contract from next month and able to quit the League Two club on a free transfer. As well as finishing top scorer with 12 goals, Molyneux took a clean sweep at the club’s end of season awards. He won the Players Player of the Year, Goal of the Season and Fans Player of the Year.

The 5' 11" tall Englishman also chipped in with three assists as he made 55 appearances across all competitions for Hartlepool who finished in the bottom half of League Two. He moved to Pools permanently in the summer of 2019 following his release by Sunderland after spending time on loan at Victoria Park previously.

Pompey have taken up the option to extend Jay Mingi’s contract with the club.

The 21-year-old midfielder signed for the Blues back in September after impressing during a pre-season trial period.

He was soon sent out on loan to National League outfit Maidenhead in order to gain some more first team experience.

Mingi returned at the turn of the year and made his Pompey debut from the bench in a 4-0 rout of Accrington.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “Jay is a young player on an upward curve and had a really positive first half of last season on loan at Maidenhead.

Pompey have taken up the option to extend Jayden Reid’s contract with the club.

The 21-year-old forward arrived at Fratton Park last summer after leaving Birmingham, where he made four Championship appearances.

But he suffered a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly at Luton soon afterwards and was ruled out for the entire 2021/22 campaign.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “It was incredibly unfortunate for him to sign a contract with us and then, just a week later, pick up an injury that kept him out for the season.

“But the day that happened, we knew that we would exercise the option in his contract for another year.

Apparently, we are interested in signing one of two central midfielders - Tom Bayliss from Preston North End, or Callum Wright from Leicester City.

23 year old Tom Bayliss spent last season on loan to Wigan Athletic, and 22 year old Callum Wright has spent the last 18 months on loan to Cheltenham Town.

Portsmouth are looking to bolster their ranks this summer, with manager Danny Cowley casting his net far and wide in the search for new additions.

Portsmouth boss Cowley stated earlier this month that he is hoping to find any non-league player capable of making the big jump up to League One this summer.

The lower leagues can be a fruitful player pool and with Pompey bidding to keep costs down where possible, it’s a sensible move for the club to look all over the place for new additions.

Amid his search of non-league, one player Portsmouth must have on their radar is Dorking Wanderers hotshot Alfie Rutherford.

Few strikers playing in England can say they’ve scored more than Rutherford has this season.

The 23-year-old scored 31 times in 35 National League South games for Dorking Wanderers – a tally that includes two braces, four hat-tricks and even a four-goal haul against Concord Rangers in April.

He helped fire Marc White’s side to victory via the play-offs, earning them promotion to the National League after a 2nd place finish.

Rutherford has impressed in England’s fifth-tier before too, scoring 14 times and laying on three assists in 35 outings during a spell on the books with Havant and Waterlooville.

Alfie Rutherford was actually on the books with Portsmouth as a youngster.

However, the diagnosis of a heart condition saw him let go by Pompey in 2014. Before then, he was offered a two-year deal but advice from the FA to stop playing football saw Portsmouth let him go.

Rutherford has kept playing though and has been tearing up the non-league scene, enjoying successful spells with Bognor Regis, Havant and Waterlooville and, most recently, Dorking Wanderers.

The striker has said he holds hopes of breaking back into the Football League one day, admitting he isn’t sure if his heart condition might have “scared off” EFL clubs.

There is no doubt about his goalscoring ability though, so it could be wise for Portsmouth to look into an unlikely return as they bid to bolster their ranks this summer.

Pompey are holding talks with 31 year old former Fratton Park academy player, 6' 2" central midfielder Marlon Pack, who is available on a free transfer, with his Cardiff City contract about to expire. I hope we sign him, as feel he would be a useful replacement for the departing Shaun Williams.

    More good news !

Michael Jacobs has put pen to paper on a new Pompey contract.

The 30-year-old midfielder has agreed a one-year deal to extend his stay at Fratton Park into a third season.

He has netted nine goals in 54 appearances for the club since arriving from Wigan in September 2020.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “We’re really pleased to be able to extend Michael’s contract because he played a pivotal role in our good run of form at the back end of last season.

“He brings quality to our side and has an amazing ability to find space and unlock opposition defences to create and score goals.

“Michael also has an excellent set-piece delivery and so we’re delighted that he’s staying with us for another season.

“There would have been other options for him, but he probably feels that there’s some unfinished business for him here.

“I also know that he really appreciates the support he’s received from the Fratton faithful. He feels at home here.”

Jacobs netted seven times during the 2021/22 campaign, which included crucial strikes in wins over AFC Wimbledon, Gillingham, Burton and Lincoln.

Saints signing Bazunu from City for 10mill. He was your player of the year last season so obviously impressed. My question is - is he ready for PL football?

He was brilliant for us last season Tom, an absolute revelation as a 19 year old ! I reckon he is ready for PL football, as he always remains calm under pressure.
I just wish we could have kept him for another season on loan, but hey, I do hope he does well for you <cheers>
