Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley gives fresh transfer hint amid Hayden Carter and Tariq Uwakwe links. please log in to view this image Tariq Uwakwe please log in to view this image Hayden Carter Portsmouth head coach Danny Cowley admits he is aware of Blackburn Rovers centre-back Hayden Carter amid recent transfer links. The 22-year-old, 6' 2" defender was credited with interest from Pompey by The News on Thursday, with Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray later confirming that he intended on sending Carter out on loan this month. Carter spent part of last season out on loan at Burton Albion and helped the Brewers steer clear of the relegation zone before returning back to Championship side Blackburn. Cowley admits he is someone that he and the club's coaching staff know well but did not reveal too much about whether an interest in the defender was genuine or just speculation. “He was at Burton last year, did very, very well at Burton and helped them to have a successful second half of the season. I think he went back to Blackburn and I believe he played some games back at Blackburn this season, which is good for his development. Another player recently linked with Pompey is Chelsea's 20 year old Tariq Uwakwe, with Football Insider suggesting the Blues, Sheffield Wednesday, and Motherwell all hold an interest in him. Cowley has revealed that 6' tall Uwakwe had a brief trial stint training with his squad in November and admits he likes certain aspects of his game. “We had him on loan at November time, he’s a boy we know well,” Cowley explained. “We enjoyed him being with us for the week/ten days that he was and he’s an exciting, attacking player. Good in one v ones, good attacking transition. He’s a boy we are well aware of. “It was just a good chance for us to look at a profile of player we are interested in. He’s a young player on an upward curve. While on loan at Accrington Stanley last season, Uwakwe spent much of his time playing as a left wing-back, despite being more commonly used in his youth career as a central midfielder. Cowley sees him as creative player, whether that be in a central or a wide role. “I think he’s an attacking player who can play in the middle of the pitch or out wide, ultimately,” added Cowley.
