Portsmouth head coach Danny Cowley admits he is aware of Blackburn Rovers centre-back Hayden Carter amid recent transfer links.

The 22-year-old, 6' 2" defender was credited with interest from Pompey by The News on Thursday, with Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray later confirming that he intended on sending Carter out on loan this month.

Carter spent part of last season out on loan at Burton Albion and helped the Brewers steer clear of the relegation zone before returning back to Championship side Blackburn. Cowley admits he is someone that he and the club's coaching staff know well but did not reveal too much about whether an interest in the defender was genuine or just speculation.

“He was at Burton last year, did very, very well at Burton and helped them to have a successful second half of the season. I think he went back to Blackburn and I believe he played some games back at Blackburn this season, which is good for his development.

Another player recently linked with Pompey is Chelsea's 20 year old Tariq Uwakwe, with Football Insider suggesting the Blues, Sheffield Wednesday, and Motherwell all hold an interest in him.

Cowley has revealed that 6' tall Uwakwe had a brief trial stint training with his squad in November and admits he likes certain aspects of his game.

“We had him on loan at November time, he’s a boy we know well,” Cowley explained.

“We enjoyed him being with us for the week/ten days that he was and he’s an exciting, attacking player. Good in one v ones, good attacking transition. He’s a boy we are well aware of. “It was just a good chance for us to look at a profile of player we are interested in. He’s a young player on an upward curve.

While on loan at Accrington Stanley last season, Uwakwe spent much of his time playing as a left wing-back, despite being more commonly used in his youth career as a central midfielder. Cowley sees him as creative player, whether that be in a central or a wide role.

“I think he’s an attacking player who can play in the middle of the pitch or out wide, ultimately,” added Cowley.

Portsmouth have signed defender Hayden Carter on loan from Championship side Blackburn until the end of the season.

Carter joined Blackburn in 2014, and has made 10 appearances this term.

The 22-year-old centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan with League One side Burton, scoring four times in 24 appearances.

"He's a young player who we know well and played a pivotal role at Burton last season," said Pompey boss Danny Cowley.

"Hayden has backed that up with a number of appearances for Blackburn in the Championship and is someone who loves to defend on the front foot."

Arsenal have recalled midfielder Miguel Azeez from his loan spell with Pompey.

The England under-20 international made 10 appearances after arriving at Fratton Park back in August.

His only goal during that time came in the 3-0 Papa John’s Trophy group stage victory over Crystal Palace U21s.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “We’ve got a brilliant relationship with Arsenal and have been in regular contact with them throughout the loan.

Out so far, Downing, Harrison, Azeez and Ahadme. In Hayden Cárter, so there is room for three further additions. I await these arrivals.

It appears that John Marquis is on the verge of joining fellow first division club Lincoln City, either on loan or for an unknown fee. His contract at Fratton Park is due to expire at the end of this season.

EDIT: John Marquis has joined Lincoln City permanently !

Coventry City striker Tyler Walker is on the verge of joining Portsmouth.

The former Nottingham Forest striker, who has struggled for regular game time under Mark Robins this season, has reportedly agreed to join the League One side on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The move will see him reunited with Pompey boss Danny Cowley, who signed Walker for Lincoln at the start of the 2019/20 season.

The 25-year-old 5' 10" tall striker scored 16 goals for the Imps by mid-January before being recalled by Forest.

Walker was eventually sold to Coventry in the summer of 2020 as Robins secured one of his long-term targets.

Portsmouth transfer gossip: Blues to sign Crystal Palace and Northern Ireland U21 keeper Ollie Webber.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Matt Woosnam, who claims the Northern Ireland under-21 international is moving to Fratton Park on a permanent deal.

Blues boss Danny Cowley has been in the look out for a young keeper to play understudy to first-choice Gavin Bazunu for the remainder of the season and allow Alex Bass to go out on loan to gain some much needed game time.

Now it’s being reported that 20-year-old Webber, who was born in Portsmouth, is the man Pompey are ready to swoop for.

Webber has played regularly for Palace’s under-23 team in recent seasons, although is now behind Joe Whitworth in the pecking order, and moved to Selhurst Park in 2016 from Irish League outfit Glentoran.

His progress at the Eagles has seen him earn three caps for the Northern Ireland under-21 international team.

Pompey have signed 20 year old goal keeper Ollie Webber permanently. Webber joined Palace's youth set-up in 2016 but did not make a first-team appearance. for the Eagles.

Details of any fee for Portsmouth-born Webber, who also represented Northern Ireland at under-21 level, and contract details, have not been disclosed.

"He's had a great education at Crystal Palace and as well as being a good shot-stopper, is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has excellent distribution skills," said Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley.

"Ollie has come in and is a young keeper who wants to improve every single day. We like to recruit players who have a burning ambition to get better."

so we have a squad of 22 (in reality 20 with Reid and Vincent long-term injuries. Of that 5 are loanees.!! Of those 20 players I do not know whose contracts are up in the summer, but it looks like a big rebuid in the summer. And with precious little coming hrough the youth ranks, I suppose the club will be searching for the inexpensive offerings come July/August

Portsmouth have reportedly had a bid rejected for Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay.

The 26-year-old, former Celtic youngster, is out of contract with the Millers this summer.

Pompey have had a bid turned down but are preparing for a second offer to land the midfielder before the transfer window slams shut, according to Football Insider.

Lindsay has played 21 times for the Millers this season but a place in the starting eleven has not happened a great deal of late.

After starting the first seven League One games of the season, Lindsay has been picking up minutes from the bench over the last couple of months with his last start coming in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town in late November.

Lindsay has made 86 appearances for the club since his arrival from Scottish Premiership side Ross County in July 2019. Before the Staggies, he started his career with Celtic and had loan spells with Dumbarton and Greenock Morton, earning the young player of the year award for the latter.
