Wasn't the team selection for last night's game spot on? And the tactical decision making also spot on

We played a resilient, physical side, away from home and lined up to counter that. Introduce the correct substitutions and we finally break a determined defence to eventually win 2-0.

Seriously, why the drama?!?!?!? Why are we questioning this at all? Why should we suddenly deserve more goals and "attractive" football, ALL THE TIME?

I had and still have reservations about Sannino. But to use the start of this season as ammunition for these reservations is completely unfounded.

I'm glad Dyer reacted as he did. Every player should feel enough justification to start every game. That is surely fundamental to being a professional.
 
In my opinion management is about communication. I have a serious worry when Beppe has been over here best part of a year now and still hasn't grasped enough English to be able to get his points across and gain the required respect (apparently). I parachuted into management roles in French Arabic and Spanish speaking countries, there is absolutely no way I could have been successful if I'd tried to get on in my own tongue the fundamental point is he must speak English, have all training and tactical sessions in English and also understand Spanish Italian Czech and whatever other languages are being spoken. I can't see how he can be effective in moulding a team through interpetors....

I'd be more impressed with this observation if I'd ever found a Scotsman who could speak coherently in English

I could understand your criticism of his critics if we were arguing this after 3 games and 3 defeats at the start of this season as that might seem like short term criticism. But those of us who want him out are saying so after 3 wins out of 4. I just do not think he is good enough for the squad we have and the ambition of the Pozzos and do not believe the players will go that extra mile for him.

I will be interested to see what happens with those supporters who think he is great because we have 3 wins out of 4 (one to a fourth tier side) if we lose a few games on the trot and fall into the bottom half. I expect suddenly they too will see his shortcomings. that will be too late.

I hope I am wrong and would never call for his dismissal at a game or anything - no more than booing players but what do you want people who think he is not up to the job to say - shall we pretend we think he is good?

I understand that if you hold a particular point of view, then it needs more evidence to get it changed than that necessary for the undecided's.
However, last season the 'wonderful' GFZ couldn't repeat the heroics of the year before. His run was no better than Beppe's.
I suspect that the management(inc. Beppe) was already thinking of this season, hence the miserable end.
My point is that after 3 league games we have no evidence that things are going wrong. In fact, 17 teams would rather be in our position than theirs.
 
We were very lucky not to have conceded a goal during the first 70 monutes of the game last night. A team with a better front-live would have scored, we were very poor. Beppe's hand was forced by the injury to Vydra and replacing was the turning point to the game and the following subs secured the game.
I just do not agree in rotating players for the sake of it, OK drop a fair few in for the Mickey Mouse cup next week, but we should field our strongest team week in week out until injury forces a change. Those who believe that players need a rest, just take a look at Burnley last season - yes they were lucky with injuries, but that shows my point.
Yorkie and I both heard the comments from the terraces last night and it's clear that Beppe is dividing opinion.
 
Regardless of peoples views off the pitch and in the forums it is disappointing that the voices on the terraces are not united in their support for the team and manager.

I agree with that. Fans should support the team 100% during games. If you don't like what you are seeing just keep quiet.

What I believe to be fair however is for discussion to take place in pubs, football forums etc about what we actually think. Another forum as an example has had two people both at the game last night with completely opposite views about Fabbrini last night. One thought him excellent, the other total rubbish. On HP the comment was made that if he is playing as a winger he should try and take on the full back instead of always coming inside. What I did notice was the number of times he was fouled, so assume that he must have been on the ball quiet a few times. Opinion will always be divided because different people see the same action in different ways, but there is a big difference at a game between a groan of disappointment and the shouting of abuse at players or coaches.

Well, we've only had two such leads this season and held onto them both - is that not an indication of improvement, however small?

And don't forget that English is a foreign language for many up here - and will be doubly so after the referendum. ;)

Just playing the devil's advocate here - presumably one of last night's turning points in our fortune was the substitution of fan's favourite Vydra. But up until that point, we rarely looked the part up front - so there is surely a case there for having not started with him. How would that have been greeted by the fans? One of the many favourite cries of fans everywhere when confronted by the signing of a 'foreigner' in their team is 'Looks good now but how will he manage on a cold night in Barnsley?' I'd say that last night's team selection was probably made with something like that in mind, as well as the fact that Rotherham are a gritty, dour and physical side who had not lost at home for a very long time - the occasion called for a little more than sublime skill & that explained the selections.

I'm not particularly in the 'Beppe is great/will lead us to the EPL' side of the argument, and neither am I in 'He's no good, get rid of him' side - he's our manager for the time being, so I'm quite happy to stick with him. I'm going to jump back onto my spot on the fence before some old crow pinches it...

3 things.

1. We were on a downward slide when he took charge last season and he steadied the ship.
2. He's had a full pre-season to address our failings last.
3. He's done well thus far this season.

SO GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM!!!!

No I disagree. We should be vociferous in our protests if we are not playing our opponents off the park with our slick one touch football.

Now that we are not a small club anymore, have pots of money, lots of Internationals in our squad and are about to have a four sided ground for the first time in decades, we should adopt the "big club" mentality and demand the sacking of our manager immediately that we are not winning every game by a clear three goals. We should also start to be condescending and patronising to the small clubs in our league (like Rotherham and Brentford). When we play them we should be expecting to beat "teams like these" to sustain our promotion challenge to return to the EPL and regain our rightful place at the top table of English football.

If BS cannot put us a dozen points clear of second place by November (like GT managed in 1997) then he should go and we should appoint "someone who knows how to get promotion from the Championship".
 
I have to say I am surprised at a lot of these comments.
Under Zola we saw fantastic football but he wouldn't compromise and our system was found out with a woeful home record.
In came Sannino and he worked on the defence and solved our home issues and the team went on a fine run of form at home. He didn't manage to solve the away form last year.
The last month of the season was awful and the players appeared to give up and the questions over whether his passionate management model motivated and worked with our players. They definitely showed a lack of professionalism at that time.

This season appeared a new start for everyone and Bolton was an excellent home result.
What I have seen so far is that he has a plan A, B & C now having worked on different formations pre-season and last night at Rotherham was a result we would not have achieved in the previous 2 seasons. He picked a team with only 5 changes but with more bite to it in an effort to counter the type of football Rotherham would play. The substitutions were critical to the result. There will be other similar matches this season. I think against Norwich he should have sacrificed at least one luxury player immediately the sending off happened and change formation but he didn't react and the result was a forgone conclusion.
Season before last I watched us lose at bottom of the table Bristol City 2-0 with Zola making 6 changes but no change to the formation.
This man knows how to get promoted; it may not always be pretty but he can get the job done in the Championship.

Where he has the obvious problems are with his passionate even aggressive attitude towards players of which he may not have even got to know them all that well individually. You can argue that he got the reaction he wanted from the players last night; but there are big questions over his ability to motivate players of this calibre and from so many different countries. He will answer that one over the next month or so.

I think we can expect more of the same in terms of rotation (I see nothing wrong in picking teams to win particular games - horses for courses) and if anything last night's emotions coming out will have helped them to get it out in the open and mould a tight unit for the ardours of a long campaign and I look forward to a dogged win away on a wet February evening and a smooth Rolls Royce win when we are allowed by the opposition who let's face it will not know which formation we are going to play in so that's a bonus and also the players have the ability to change formation during a game if required. We should be pleased about that and support the team and manager fully at matches.

3 wins out of 4 and there are unhappy people - what is the world, and in particular Watford supporters, coming to? I have never heard the like of it.
 
Oh, I wanted to add that Vydra is unlikely to play at the weekend having had lumps kicked out of him last night. That could have happened to our talented midfield trio that didn't play last night; instead they are fit and available for the weekend should they be selected.

I was going to say soemthing similar earlier actually. Abdi got absolutely battered against Bolton so the manager has to be a bit selective. Of course we could argue that the refs should be clamping down on such treatment but they never do at this level. I suspect a few other clubs with very talented players will find thmselves in the same boat.

How silly of us. Of course he is a fantastic manager. His record last season was almost exactly equal to that of his predecessor - who got the sack for it. we never let a 2 goal lead slip and we could play and play until the 100th minute. What was I thinking of? The last four games of the season were a deliberate ploy to lull other teams into a false sense of security. Beating 2 championship teams this year is marvellouss especially as one were two divisions below us two years ago. He has such a small squad of untalented players that anything better than relegation must be hailed as Mr Marvel's Watford Wonders.

Yes -we can all play the sarcasm game.

Please would others note that those of us wanting Sannino out are basing it on more than the last 4 games. It is based on all the factors I and others have said already. For those of you who cannot believe some of us do not rate him then just wait and see what you think if he finishes in mid table. My bet is come December if we are not in the top ten many of you will revise your opinions - it will be too late then. Also please look at his previous record - promotions in lower division in Italy -nothing equivalent to this level

I hope I am wrong but think as a supporter of over 50 years who has been slow in the past to distrust a manager my opinion is perfectly fair for me to have.
 
I totally agree with OFH and Leo - support them on the pitch but it's absolutely fine to voice concerns in the pub or on forums and it doesn't make you any less of a fan. Also worth noting that he and the players have come in for absolutely no personal abuse whatsoever on here which is refreshing for those who read Facebook!

I would like to ask those who at the moment feel an alternative may be better exactly what they want Beppe to do before they change their mind (if indeed you think such an outcome is possible). This isn't meant as a trick question or anything like that - it would be interesting to know what you all expect or hope for.
