If this is true it's the last straw for me. He might as well put a sports direct shirt on the Jackie statue...

Do you think he's going to spend any of the club's own money on NUFC? I don't.

I'm sure Ashley has another business partner waiting in the shadows for him to put the club up for sale again.
Ashley is just making himself the most hated man possible to make his partner look like a hero when he overtakes the club. Of course the two will still be working together but Mike would have disappeared off the face of the earth through our eyes.
The new owner will be hailed as a king when he gets rid of the sportsdirect signs and declares that Ashley was a disgraceful owner when really they'll be the best of friends.

Probably not. I was replying to a post saying that more money for Mike Ashley's business is good for NUFC.

You shouldn't give him any ideas. If this happens when we know who to blame!

I don't think Ashley gives a toss what people think. Almost everything he has done in his time here has annoyed the fans.

To the people slagging off fat Mike & saying he isn't investing in the club. An interesting article in The Journal last week makes it fairly clear.

Anyone want to work out how much he could be making on the interest on a £100 Million loan? No, he's not invested in the club at all - well unless you count the nearly quarter of a BILLION he's already got tied up in the club.
I'm not condoning some of his decisions and would hate to see that sign but bit of a reality check needed, world economy screwed, most of Europe skint. And we're moaning about the guy who has invested more of HIS OWN money than the likes of The Glazers at Manure, Lerner at Villa or Hicks & Gillette at Liverpool.

That is the one positive side of Mike Ashley and it has been mentioned several times on this forum. All summer it has been endless PR spin about what the Carroll money has been used for when only three players have been signed (four if you include Abeid as a first teamer) and the net spend is about £500,000. I am thankful he isn't like some of the other owners in the Premier League (Look at QPR - some of the richest people in the world but they aren't spending any money and charging massive prices for games) but there are things that I still don't like about him and the way he runs the club.

I agree with you about him & the way he runs the club but to say net spend is £500,000 is naive. The cost of agents, admin fees etc will go well into the millions.

Yes, Ashley has gone about trying to be a popular figure in Newcastle the wrong way. He's made far too many mistakes to ever be forgiven by the majority BUT he isn't doing too badly with the clubs finances and although all those Anti-Ashley people hate to admit it ... we could have been bankrupt and no longer have a club to support without his influence !!

Like it or not ... It's all hypothetical because it didn't happen but having looked at the accounts before and after his takeover, only a person of Ashley's wealth could have done a similar job and as he has yet to find a buyer he remains the only choice.

By the way, I wouldn't have thought the Newcastle United sign would be replaced, I might be wrong but it seems a little extreme as it could be argued he is not replacing the stadium name rather the name of the club for his own ends !!

Support the team, forget the regime. Howay the Lads !!

Part of any major business is that old chestnut 'goodwill', i.e. the difference between what the assets of the business are worth and the total value of the business on the open market. He puts a sign like that up there and he starts to erode that goodwill, by pissing off all his customers, i.e. you lot. This could manifest itself in lower attendances or merchandise sales, particularly any with the Sports Direct logo on. Is he that daft?

If it does happen, the Sunderland fan in me will laugh, but the football fan will be pretty disgusted. I don't particularly like having the Tombola logo on our shirts, but putting that on the stadium.....

Personally, I'll always support the club no matter who owns it, who manages it, plays for it, even if next year's kit is sky blue pink with turcoise polkadots. It's The Toon that counts not all the other ****e.
