Not really. It was pointless because it was just five pointless ODI's in another country after a long hard summer. I personally never liked a series where only one day cricket is played. The series on a whole was not long term because the next world cup is in Australia so its not a serious experience needed for the young players. We tour India next year for a proper tour where you have test matches and ODI's. Thats a tour. We beat Australia in a series like this where just one day cricket is played and I thought it was pointless then.
just read that the Manchester Evening News nominated Berbatov, Viera and Yaya Toure! now that is taking the piss
Rory McIlroy, the best golfer in the world last year. At least I think he was, since I don't follow golf very closely. Anyway, assuming that's the case, there wasn't another popular sport with a Briton at the top. I think.
McIlroy and Clarke both won a golf major last year, McIlroy did much better in general competition than Clarke, but Clarke won the British Open which is much higher profile over here. McIlroy doesn't have much class, he threw a hissy fit and blamed everyone but himself when the weather got the better of him at the Open, whereas Clarke just knuckled down and won it. Also this is probably Clarke's last chance to win it, whereas McIlroy has his whole career ahead of him.
And actually if you go by the rankings Luke Donald was the best in the world, but he didn't win anything major...
Hope Solo for me. The USA national ladies goalie is a classy, gorgeous young lady...and I love watching her diving about......sigh!!!!!!!
Cav for me as i cycle alot and the sport is huge in Spain. What he's done in cycling is unpresidented by a UK athlete. He'll also become the leading stage winner in the Tour barring injury which is a feat most cyclists would never have believed possible by a GB cyclist.
Also Cav has a great personality and gives 110% for his team(which is changing to Sky,be interesting to see how he does with Wiggins and co?).
Can anyone name one woman who managed a notable sporting achievement this year? No? I bet you can name half a dozen that're whining there's no women on the shortlist...
"he threw a hissy fit and blamed everyone but himself" Too bad, I thought he was a decent guy. I can't understand why people can't say the right things when they lose. The best was Rod Laver, after he lost on one leg to a nobody: "What happened?" "He played a great match. He was just too good for me today." "It looked like your injury really bothered you." "I felt fine. When I'm injured I don't play."
