And thats why we NEED a creative attacking midfielder. Give RvW and Hooper service and they will score, but if they have to rely on what we are giving them in the second half it just wont work.
I would sum it up by saying "WhENNnnn you try so HardDd and you Don't Succeeeeeeed" "when you get what you want and not what you neeEEeeeed" "HoooOOTUnnnNNN OOT BUH!!"
Another good run out for us, against decent opposition aswell. 1st half excellent, 2nd half not so. I know its only the 1st time they've played together but I do not see RvW and Hooper together working as a start off point. It has to be 1 or the other, but its good to have the luxury. The need for another Hoolahan type player is paramount.
Not a shot on goal in the whole of the second half. Classic game of two halves for us. RvW doesn't look the part of an £8.5m striker - seemed similarly lost as Holt did for most of last season. At least Hooper showed his credentials so here's hoping........................
Slicker, you cannot judge a player on 45mins of a preseason friendly. Christ, give the bloke a chance!
Sorry to disappoint you but I'm not a Coldplay fan, I'm not an IT manager from Milton Keynes who thinks the Latitude festival is the pinnacle of cutting edge music.
Also, you've just answered your own critic. RvW doesn't look the part, but we didn't have a shot on goal... Whos fault is it that both happened??? Certainly not RvW! 2nd half was terrible compared to the 1st, and unluckily for RvW he got put into the latter.
It is a little premature to start speculating that Hooper and RVW cannot work together as a duo. At Celtic Hooper and Stokes would alternate between the 9 and 10 positions to great effect. I've also heard that in RVWs days in Holland he used to drop into the number 10 slot as well. There is no reason to believe this kind of partnership cannot develop again here.
I know danary, I'm not doubting that they could. Will be interesting to see if and how there partnership develops
There's no reason why RVW and Hooper won't work. Hopper makes committed runs regardless of where the ball is, Wolfswinkle seems to waits until the ball is ready to be played before committing forward. Otherwise he will drift all over slowly. They are very different players. All it needs is for them to think about each other and the midfield to understand them.
