Another part of the interview: https://archive.ph/Ar3QB Not sure what to make of it. All I will say, is actions speak louder than words and this interview alone won't change my opinion of SR. Accept responsibility, but blame everyone else.
This quote stuck out: We were not close enough to understand what was really going on,” Ankersen says. “That’s a major lesson for us. We acted like a parent who is sending money to their kid but not sending their love and attention,” Solak says. “It never works and it didn’t work in our case as well. That’s why we are going to be close, to show support, to know what is going on, and knowing exactly what the club needs. We thought a huge amount of financial support would resolve a lot but it didn’t really.” So they thought throwing money at the problem, without knowing what's going on, would solve the issues? Comes across as naive.
They obviously trusted Semmens and co. Those folks have now fallen on their swords and Sport Republic are rolling up their sleeves and getting in the deep end? Will it be a good thing? To be continued, but it shows the right intentions IMO.
As I said above, actions will speak louder than words. Solak is coming across well, particularly in the times, but the results will be in the season ahead on the pitch. Less said about W.Ankersen the better.
They seem to have extremely bad judgement; and they’re completely naive to English football. They still don’t seem to see why Nathan Jones was an awful appointment. Then they thought that they could just throw money at the club and it would sort itself out? They say they don’t think a lack of experience was the problem? (At least they accepted that the squad balance was wrong though). It’s just absurd, incompetent management with zero strategy. If they were in charge of my company I’d be looking to move on straight away after seeing their decision making and justifications. And this is the PR pruned version. One thing is for sure. It will be fascinating to see what comes next from them
Did you seriously expect them to come out and say that Nathan was an awful appointment? Come on, that was never going to happen. They've admitted that they failed us, that he wasn't the right fit and failed at handling the media properly and did things they didn't like. What more can they say? It's about as far as they can go. No owner would - or certainly should - be coming out and slamming a manager after sacking the bloke. It would be a terrible idea and awful, awful optics for the entire club.
I can imagine they do feel like **** for NJ. He would be a PremierLeague manager next season if he had stayed put. Only for a couple of months probably because hes **** but he would have earned it. There was an air of panic in their actions if you ask me. Bringing Jones in as a manager because he could possibly sort out our setpiece issues? Well that's a setpiece coach then. One manager with Prem experience is the same as another, really?? That's the wildest statement of the lot. And then after getting rid of Ralph because we couldn't play the way he wanted they decided to try Selles playing the way Ralph wanted. We lost 20+ games playing 4222, sacked Jones after 7 and then went back to 4222 and lost another dozen or so. That just sounds like stupidity in hindsight. They were 'attracted to a well run club' and have dismantled it from the top down. Now its a shambles of their own making and they have nowhere to hide & no-one left to fire now. We will live or die by their actions I guess. I'm concerned at the degree of change and the inexperience of the owners most of all.
I will disagree that we were a well-run club before them, honestly. We lurched from crisis to crisis for five years, churning through executive staff at an impressive rate, with dysfunction up and down the organization. It came to a head this year, but the seeds had long since been planted.
