What was the point of that race if the F1 controllers can make it up as they wish , I'm not an F1 fan so no bias to either driver This is the 1st race I've watched from start to finish in years and will be few more before I watch another
Ridiculous. It was reduced to a one lap race where the advantages Hamilton had - time gap on the track and lapped drivers in the way - were wiped out by race control. And Verstappen had been able to use the the safety car to change to new tyres. He had new soft tyres to Hamilton’s hard used ones. Could you imagine if in football the teams went off at 2-0 for floodlight failure with 10 minutes left, came back out when they were fixed but the ref decided there was only one minute left to play, the score was now 0-0 and the team which had been losing restarted the game a penalty . Who would stand for that?
In football terms that was one team winning 1-0 with 1 min of added time to go then the ref sending off 5 of the winning team and awarding a pen to the other side
Wait to see what shenanigans will go on at the world cup in Qatar. I reckon they will want Neymar or Messi to win.
It’s a messy end that nobody, whether they’re supporters of Lewis or Max, would have wanted. Mercedes protested on two counts and are appealing the decision to slap down their second protest. I understand their position to be that the race directors fudged the rules so the race wouldn’t finish under the safety car, which left Lewis as a sitting duck to Max on fresh softs. However it ends it’s going to be messy. Merc reckon the race director prioritised the spectacle over the rules. RB don’t really seem to mind as long as Max wins the title, which is understandable, and I expect they’d take the same positions if their situations were reversed. They’re both fantastic drivers who are well clear of the rest of the grid and it’s clear that Max will win the title eventually (unless RB completely go to **** after the regs change for next season), even if this one gets taken off him. It’s just a shame that a season that was already contentious has ended in such a manner, especially as the race was made free to air. The arcane nature of the rules and protests (to the new viewer) will have turned many people off, even if the decision was made in such a way as to provide the grandstand finish that many wanted.
Disgraceful behaviour by the the race director.I can see it going to CAS and end up making F1 a laughing stock. If the result is reversed, it will be hilarious to watch the meltdown of Christian Horner and Mad Max. If the result is eventually confirmed, many of us will forever consider it a tainted title.
I actually quite like Max and don’t really have a dog in the fight between him and Lewis, besides generally just liking to see the Brits do well. Max is a phenomenal driver though. But watching Horner melt down is too funny not to side with Lewis and Mercedes at times like this. The levels of salt would be epic.
I just wanted a great race and for the best man to win. Would have been happy for either in different ways. But the way in which it was won/lost was absurd and F1 is a laughing stock tonight.
Just another sport that's being ruined by the administrators. I haven't watched it for years. It's a shadow of its sporting heyday of the past. I don't watch rugby union anymore and very rarely watch football, unless we're playing. VAR and money has sucked the fun out of football. The laws of both games are becoming ever more impenetrable and changed every 5 minutes to try to right the previous **** ups and recapture what was thrown away. The next World Cup has been bought and sold, by a country with a smaller population than Wales and more money than is good for anyone and administrators as crooked as the current British government. What could possibly go wrong...?
Just a thought for Mercedes: maybe don't accept sponsorship deals from the firm that provided cladding for Grenfell Tower? Karma has a nasty habit of biting people on the ass...
Whoever came up with that one was horrendously poor of judgement. Plenty of dirty money in F1 though, just look at where the races are held and who owns the teams. Unfortunately, the same is true of pretty much every major sport now. Like Brian, for me it’s sucking the enjoyment out of a lot of sports. I pretty much only watch Spurs and England now, have mostly given up on rugby outside of internationals and the Lions, and only got into F1 last year because there was nothing else to do during lockdown and it gave me something to talk to my mates about as they’re more long-term fans. I think it’s something that sport governing bodies are going to have to come to terms with. As much as I dislike the Legacy Fan label that the Super League organisers came up with, I think there’s a definite divide between fans who watch because of an emotional connection to clubs and want to see, ultimately, fair competition, and fans who just want to see big moments all the time and are more connected to personalities than institutions. Sport will have to reckon with this divide eventually because the interests are not reconcilable and the big money wants the latter as it drives engagement.
First of all WARNING: GRAPHIC Secondly How to end your wrestling career in three easy steps i.) Show up for your match off your face on something ii.) Decide the planned spot needs more oomph, so instead legit choke the person out before going to town on them with a spike, severing an artery in their forehead among the other injuries inflicted iii.) Day/night Test, swinging pink ball, chance for England to level..... Not much evidence of that so far.
As a club cricketer, Butler had a mare, dropping 2 catches, one of which I would be confident of catching in the crack of my arse it was that easy. Time for Bairstow to get a recall I reckon.
