Wow! Jason Kenny kerin gold medal. I don't know much about cycling but I know that was special. When I saw the gap open I thought to myself that can't be usual, and it turns out it wasn't. Not been seen in a major final, and reflecting his experience of seeing an opportunity. Even then how many would have had the confidence and the balls to go for it? Worth being up at 4am for!
7 golds and 2 silvers from his efforts at various Olympics. A knighthood soon, surely? His wife’s not too bad at it either.
Big row coming in boxing. WBA interim welterweight bout between Mykal Fox and Gabriel Maestre. Controversial decision goes the way of the latter fighter, despite many thinking it shouldn't have. Pretty standard, so far. One judge had it pretty wide, though. People went digging through her twitter. Turns out she's a massive racist and, rather inevitably, a big Trump supporter. She's also married to WBA executive Ricardo Rizzo. ****'s sake.
I would have thought their kid has a rather good start in genetic makeup! And the Laura Trott gold post box is just round the corner to me.
What's this then? Surprising news in the aftermath of the Olympics. Well not really. Sprinter fails drugs test. One of ours unfortunately. Could mean losing the team 4x100 silver, which means of course the other three members of the team (even if clean), will have to give their medals back AND of course if means the team that came fourth legitimately (if clean) have been cheated out of the opportunity to receive bronze medals on the world stage. A sad state of affairs. I suspect these will not be the first medals handed back.
The Association of Boxing Commissions has also threatened to ****can the WBA belts. They have too many and it's confusing the the punters, boxers and promoters, apparently. Can't say that I disagree. Very bad day for the WBA, but it's one they brought on themselves.
Absorbing Test so far. Good day for England’s two class players today (Anderson & Root if you were wondering). If Root can get another 100, England are still in it. It would be great to see Jonny Bairstow get to a painstaking 50, then go full white ball mode and get to 100 in another 20 balls!
I started off watching the Hundred thinking it was a bit meh but having live cricket on the BBC and seeing the families and enjoyment from the kids I came round to it , not sure it will be of benefit to test match cricket though Enjoyed the finals and I will definitely be taking the grand kids along next year
Some star players have emerged too. But that's the problem. Liam Livingstone isn't going to play too much red ball cricket going forward now he can make a fortune smashing sixes for fun.
Weather permitting, this Test match is no more! It has ceased to be! 'It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, & rests in peace!
It was always a case of when not if. English cricket is at a very low ebb at the moment. The run out of Malan was particularly inept, as they clearly weren't going for the win.
