230 MPH, wow,I didn`t know that they are reaching speeds like that. Really does require plenty of guts to go out there and race at those sort of speeds. I can always remember Michael Schumacher saying when he was asked about big oval racing, he said, "There are the drivers that have hit the wall, and those that are going to hit the wall"
My cousins husband took me there for the time trials , I was there the day after Scott Brayton died . Two things really struck me . one - the sheer speed , I realised how fast they were going when they crossed the row of bricks that were there ( well they were in 1996 ) . There was a clear delay from the car going over the bricks , to you hearing the. “ clack “ noise . Two - How approachable everyone / everything was . Incredible place .
Sky are doing an explainer video of the new regs, but I can see from the thumbnail that Craig Slater is fronting it, so I cannot bring myself to watch that cringeworthy raffle prize winner of an F1 “journalist”. Him and Crofty. As Roy Keane would say- give me a break!!
Pretty much. And hitting those walls, even though they use much safer barriers these days can wind up in one hell of a big accident. I think I'd be just clinging on and screaming the whole way around. Occasionally drivers opt out of the big ovals and an oval specialist is brought in to replace them.
Good job they have at least attempted to make the walls have some form of protection . My cousins husband asked one of the Marshalls if he was involved in the aftermath of Braytons crash . He said no , but another Marshall who had been there said when they took his helmet off , there was blood and “ stuff “ coming out of both ears .
Sheesh! That pretty gruesome! Yeah, safely has come a long way in American single seater. Safer Barriers and the current Indy chassis certainly seems to help. But even with that there's been some bad accidents over the last few years. The death of Justin Wilson and Robert Wickens terrible injuries are a couple that spring to mind.
Liberty Media says F1 has not reached the point where it is time for an american style 'playoff system' Maffei: "I don't think we've reached that point yet." "What is so great about this sport is that we finish a whole season and crown a champion at the end. That's a huge victory in the minds of many people. (In Dutch ) https://nl.motorsport.com/f1/news/f...inig-voor-overstap-play-offssysteem/10620047/
I have always permitted Crofty the space, his audience is more than the die hards. F1 has broadened its appeal and I always imagine he is talking to those new to the sport. Might even be a dictate from Sky. Remember, it is a business. I can't handle him so do tune out most of the time. Occasionally I listen to him.
Nah That's once in a while. The he's closing he's closing utter rubbish as a car is 5miles behind amd has no chance but has drs is tiresome. The fact he then missed totally the key action or worse gets it wrong makes him a poor commentator Most of all though the stupid statements with about 10 laps to go trying to make a race sound like there must be drama to come are just pathetic. Croft is ****.
The thing is I don't hear all that because i have long ago tuned him out. Just assume he is paid to peddle rubbish then you won't be annoyed as much.
Peddling is one thing. Being a **** up who misses the obvious is another. Not having him there is a joy.
Yes , fair comment . It’s as if he’s trying to be Murray sometimes ,if he has been told to carry on , that’s not his fault . good point about it being a business .
I don’t normally post rumours, but there’s a suggestion going round that the fact that something has finally clicked at Merc on the technical side is causing them to re-evaluate what they want to do for drivers next year. The suggestion is that could open the door for Sainz.
Ted mentioned, on his post quali program, that merc had realised that by using a proper centre section of front wing ( they previously had a legality strip) that flexed (legally) back to allow more air flow under the centre section of floor at high speeds then flexing back to give more front end grip on corners they had found a decent gain.
I should say I don’t really believe this rumour, the suggestion is it’s a 1 or 1+1 year deal only, which I don’t see Carlos going for. Also Merc seem to have been pretty set on the Verstappen or Antonelli (so Antonelli then) route for a while now. It’s most interesting I think because it suggests that Merc believe finally this isn’t a false dawn.
If they finally have their fingers out of their bums, I'd imagine that Max is regretting turning down that rumored 150mil. Ouch!
