Alex Zanardi seriously hurt in collision with a lorry whilst on his hand bike Hope he makes it , but not looking good .https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/53115622
The accident happened on the SP146, a winding road through the countryside between the towns of Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia. Reports from witnesses say that Zanardi lost control, overturned and went into the oncoming lane, where he struck the vehicle. Because the accident occurred in a wooded area the helicopter couldn’t land at the site, and Zanardi had to be transferred to a field, where the helicopter could land. Italian newspaper La Repubblica quoted Mario Valentini, the coach of the Italian team, as saying that the truck had tried to avoid the collision. “It happened on a straight downhill, just before the road makes a slight bend,” he said. “Alex slightly crossed into the other lane. The truck tried to steer but was not able to avoid the impact.”
Such sad news... But the man is a fighter, there's no doubt about that. Just have to cross fingers that he's got the fight to overcome this too!
Wow, unbelievable news. He has fought back from every setback he has been dealt with so far in life, heres hoping he can do it again.
Must admit I feel sorry for the Lorry Driver as well . Alex is an inspiration to Millions , It appears he ( The Lorry Driver ) did all he could to avoid the collision .
Zanardi has undergone a second operation . Still serious , but everything Crossed for him ! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/disability-sport/53225048
I haven't commented on this as it is all very sad. My hope is he makes a good recovery and retains a quality of life. Biily Monger, Alex and others, determined to not let the disability prevent them enjoying life. Reconstruction surgery can deliver amazing results, just hope there is no long term brain injury. Fingers Crossed.
His son is reporting he is very worried about his father's eyesight and ability to communicate. Very worrying.
Not sure if this has been done already, but F1 is losing viewers with it's switch to Pay TV. I honestly can't see how this is going to benefit the teams in the long run. Lost 129 million viewers since 2008 https://www.forbes.com/sites/csylt/...e-crashes-by-20-million-viewers/#7ef752c05a66
