I can't believe that they have no idea who they are putting in the car, unless he's not coming back?

Following this weekend's Bahrain GP, the team will remain at the Sakhir circuit for an in-season test and whoever drives the McLaren may be a pointer as to who will take the vacant seat in Monaco.

"I believe that Stoffel is going to be in the car for some of the time. I think once a driver decision is made, Eric will ultimately make that decision [on who else drives in the test]," Brown said.

"I don't personally know [how much experience Jenson has of the 2017 car]. He obviously hasn't tested it physically but whether he has done simulator time with the '17 car, Eric would have more knowledge than I on that."

Vergne could be an option if there isn't a date clash with FE.

Maldonado, though not sure whether he was racing elsewhere last year or not.

    Di Res.........I'm sorry, that's cruel.

So apparently Stoffel Vandoorne said he is going to miss the Hungarian grand prix to do an endurance race.

What's going on? Was he joking?

Edit: apparently so. Impressively deadpan sense of humour...

Ferrari's flexible floor isn't so much flexible, it's just hinged <laugh>

Unfortunately for Ferrari it's probably easyish to copy.

Am I alone in fearing for Alonso's safety ? He is going from a car that underperforms terribly to a whole new challenge ,he will really go for it , in what is IMHO the most dangerous open top series !

Can't speak for anyone else , I hope he does well , but more than that , I hope he emerges unscathed !

he's a racing driver, and one of the best, it's Indy, not death race 2000. In 30 years 2 drivers have been killed in the race and 3 in practice.

Sounds like he was asked as part of his contract obligations rather than choosing to race? Also very strange not to be in the car at the in season test.

Obviously i've long since learned to take Eric Boulliers words with a pinch of salt, but according to him it wasn't hard to convince Jenson.
Who knows? Maybe watching the cars drive away without him in Australia hurt more than he thought it would. I agree the lack of testing is weird. Apparently they discussed it and decided there wasn't a lot to gain. I hope their simulator is well correlated or it'll be very hard to get up to speed.

    So never?

So one race alone has had more fatalities than F1 has in that entire period.............

Also, now count the number of accidents where drivers have had career ending injuries or suffered multiple broken bones that have ruled them out for a long time.

No it is not death rate 2000, but for someone who still clearly considers himself to have an F1 career past the end of his McLaren contract, it is one hell of a risk.

It's motor-racing, it's inherently dangerous, that's part of the fun and the attraction. and we're talking about Fernando Alonso, not some rich-kid slo-schmoe from Canada whose daddy has bought him a seat out of his depth. Is Chilton dead? Did Barricello die? Or is it that you rate Alonso lower than those 2?

Not sure if this has been done before , but what drivers helmet design is your favourite ? Mine would be John Watson's , closely followed by Didier Pironi's .

You may be right , but I think it's a little early to say Stroll is out of his depth .
