Found this piece on Beeb website about Brechin City who could go the whole season without a win. They were relegated last week and have only picked up 4 draws from 29 games, the piece talks about the couple of dozen or so supporters who travel home and away on the supporters club bus, real fans, not a glory hunter in sight. I'm sure Steelmonkey can add more to this...... http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43533825
Hats off to their supporters, I'm sure the 'gallows humour' keeps them going. They are only part-timers at their level competing against full-timers so the odds are stacked against them. I read somewhere their ground is unique as it has a huge hedge down one side, probably a good thing to hide behind at the moment. Ironically, one end of the ground is named the 'Cemetry End', truly you couldn't make it up...
I've seen them at Cappielow this season (missed the game on Saturday when they got relegated) where I go quite often, and they were poor. The standard of Championship football up here isn't great, but they were quite a bit off the pace. The fans deserve great credit though, they are a long way from almost all the other clubs in the division (Dundee Utd would be their closest, and that's about an hour for them, whilst the Central Belt teams are a good 2-3 hours each way - not a happy journey if you're getting beat week in, week out. I did some work at their ground a few years ago, and there's a church at the back behind the wall with a graveyard - I suppose they could count them as spectators Four points all season is pretty poor though, but they'll do well again next season when back in League 1, I'm sure. Looks like Ayr will be coming back up, they seem to yo-yo every season as they are another part-time outfit. There's very little money outwith the Old Firm, Aberdeen and the Edinburgh clubs, so lots of teams have had to go part-time, or have a nucleus of full timers with some part-time and youth players (thats what they have at Morton), which is why it's important for the smaller clubs to have the opportunities to play the big clubs in the cups. Mortons wage bill for half the season was covered when they played Celtic a few weeks back.
One game left of the season, and still no win....they're at home next weekend to Queen of the South - can they pull it out of the bag on the last day?
Agreed what excuse do we have in West London ? Remarkable supporters of their team Contrast that to some on here
How about supporters of Fort William in the HIghland League in Scotland? FW have played 31 games and gained just 4 points (4 draws) too but have a goal difference of -144! They got hammered 12-0 yesterday By contracts, league leaders Cove Rangers have 90 points and a GD of +108
