The rest of the field was exciting to watch, Mclaren vs Ferrari, Lotus in the mix. Saubers and Force Indias going at it. Nothing worth wasting my time on in this case. Magnussen the best of the rest is a world away. Ridiculous state of the sport.
As above, the Spanish race rarely throws up a classic. Most of the season has seen pretty decent midfield racing though, as well as some close stuff at the front. No need to get over emotional about it. Just one race.
Not a great race by any means but Hamilton at Schumacher levels of perfection today. He's been a bit under par so far this season but that was domination today. Had higher hopes for the race with the potential for rain. Failing that, the fabulous tactical battles here in 2017 and 2016 (Max's first win!) were more than enough to hope for something similar but Lewis was just too good at the front to make it a contest. Good on Bottas to take second - the least he deserves after the horrendous luck of Baku. Ferrari - what were they thinking with that pit stop? Vettel's faultless form this season being undermined by the pit wall there. No doubt he'll be back and I back him in Monte Carlo!
Be happy that there are 3 top teams this year. We've been lucky to get barely two op teams per season for most of the last 10 years or so.
Pretty impressive drive by Hamilton, to pull out almost 0.5 seconds per lap over the first 16 - 17 laps meant he could dictate from the front. Pleased for Valtteri after the events of the last race, he's starting to look a decent number 2.
These regulations are vastly more track dependent as we found at last year. Where racing was poor in 2016 its now diabolical. There'll be a couple more races like this one. Hopefully the simplified front wings for next year help out and maybe close the grid up a little bit.
Side note, what on earth has happened to Romain Grosjean? Hes having an utter nightmare after being pretty respectable since mid 2013. It must be mental frailty, but he's in his 30s and this is his 7th season. Could be a career ending run of form.
I honestly don’t know what was going through Grosjean’s mind. Doing a sort of donut in front of oncoming traffic. Baffling.
Well that was ****e! Lewis in a league of his own, but I hope to God Pirelli haven’t gifted the Merc the championships!
We've only got this tyre for 3 races so if it does turn out to favour Merc it'll only be for 2 more races. They dominated in Aus so it's not guaranteed that this was solely down to a missing 4mm.
As a side note. Didn't Red Bull lap McLaren today? Still a lot to do with that car before it's competitive.
