I'm not so bothered about him but chuffed for Macca Meyler and Brady, have a soft spot for Walters too
it always struck me as bizarre that he got the praise for that last minute free kick and earning us a point when his refusal to stay in position in that game meant he constantly got in everyone else's way and was never on the wing when they wanted to pass to him there. those were the first two goals greece ever scored against us from open play.
He disrupted the whole balance of the team, you are right- people don't like to hear it though as Becks is too much of a god like hero to some!
Are you two serious on Beckham for the Greece game? He was the only ****er who turned up, he near enough took on Greece on his own, England were **** that day. One of the best individual performances I've seen, probably the best in an England shirt. Unbelievable some of you, forget some things easily.
Lots of emotion attached to the game but it's one I actually remember perfectly, can't agree with everybody all the time.
nope, there we must differ. as i said, he got in everyone else's way. it was selfish and immature. if he'd stayed in position, everyone else would have been able to function. he got in their way and prevented them playing as they normally would. i thought it at the time. it wasn't his usual habit to abandon the wing role. i don't know why he did it. it turned what should have been a comfortable win into a near defeat. some people only remember the dying seconds.
He was doing that because the team was playing **** and nobody was taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Of course it might seem like a selfish thing to do, but when nobody else is going for it in such a vital game it was the right thing to do. He stepped up and played against Greece single handedly (bar Sheringham I suppose). Some people like to try and find flaws in anything.
There was a lot of emotion attached to it so if I was a young lad I would remember it like Quilliam does, he was probably only about 3 or 4 back then
Nah I was like X at the time, fairly annoyed, if he didn't score right at the end after a lot of bad attempts people would remember that differently. He did work hard though can't argue with that.
I watched it a couple of years ago, it was on some foreign sports channel, can't remember which. Must've been a slow sports day to replay that match.
It's incredibly easy to say that considering it didn't happen that way. People seem to have this preconception that good FK takers score with every other kick. On FIFA maybe, but not in the real world. He scored. He played great. Move on.
If by couple you mean 70ish, then yeah. If you actually read all the comments before butting in and replying, you'll see that I saw a replay of the game.
IRELAND QUALIFY Republic of Ireland 2-0 Bosnia (agg 3-1) Posted at22:01 Republic of Ireland left-back Robbie Brady on Sky Sports: "The fact we're going to the Euro 2016 is unbelievable, I'm still in shock, it's the sort of thing you dream about. Getting into the play-offs, drawing away and coming back here to qualify is what we would taken before and we did it today. Everyone involved was excellent and now we're off to France. "My set pieces were dire before the one which set up Jon Walters's second but he stuck with it and he put that one away. I'm ecstatic. We never seem to do things the easy way, when things got tough, we stuck together and ground out those results. "Tonight is the best moment of my career." please log in to view this image Reuters
Cue someone ignorantly suggesting the getting to the FA Cup final or promotion to the Prem was better...
