Clasie actually started to get into the game with a few nice tackles. But then 5mins later went off injured.

Shame if his injury keeps him out as he must be champing at the bit to prove himself. Not everyone hits the ground running and now he will be back to square one.

Just got back and have tp say i thoroughly enjoyed my first european game. Despite the lull in the second half i thought 3-0 was a brilliant result for us. Maya yoshida is my man of the match but the vitesse fans are my men of the match. Brilliant display of lunacy.

So, can i do the return leg thread?

Good win. Shame Clasie got injured. Like the look of Cedric. Wanyama was immense and Mane was a constant menace. Those two are going to have big seasons IMO. Oh and West Ham. <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

Big Vic edges MoM from Mane in my opinion. He was excellent.

    Cedric is our new hero.
    Stekelenburg looked solid.
    Clasie needs time.
Juanmi has got some skill but will need a few games.

Was Cork playing? If not I thought Wanyama was probably MoM. Although Mane, what a season he could have! Looking at the team/squad I reckon all we need is a Hazard or David Silva type and we've got it cracked (easier said than done of course).

Really enjoyed tonights game, lovely evening, good game, good win, and only £15. Only minus , no beer on sale so couldnt have my usual bottle of cider before ko.
As others have said above, Wanyama was a tank, our new RB Cedric looks good and Yoshi was terrific. Targett did well too. Good start to the season.

'Where I go next, it will be a surprise, a very big surprise’

Said by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, well guess Fonte has ruined that surprise

Hmmm.... Just been reading through the comments and interesting to read the opinions.

IMHO there were a few things to be worried about.

Tadic was poor, fitness and effort were both well below par, annoyed it was him that scored the penalty as people who weren't there may be under the impression he played well. He is still far too wasteful in possession, Long put in far more effort in his short time in the pitch and created something through endeavour and bravery.

Pelle was very, very static and looked unfit. Balls ran past him and his effort was erratic. Seemed to be doing that constantly annoying European thing of pointing at the ball/pitch/talking to himself when he made a mistake. Interesting to watch him trip himself up in mid air-a feat not managed since Guly vs Bristol City. Seemed to be being very bossy towards Long, Targett and Juanmi and was in heated discussions with Jose after Longs goal.

Davis was erratic and seemed to continue where he left off last season.

Wanyama was ok, got lucky a few times and seemed to be missing the steadying influence of Morgan.

Clasie grew into the game needs time to bed into English game.

Fonte, Yosh, Targett, and Cedric all played very well and it's nice to have a level head playing in the sticks again.

Juanmi looks an exciting prospect and needs his confidence building.

But that's just my opinion.... Could do with a real calming DM...

Yeah, a bit gutted no alcohol in the ground. Also i dunno if it was just europa, but could not find any info on line ups till 10 mins before the game. They made an announcement over the speakers when i arrived but did not have it on the screens. Just got back. Did any of the freeview channels get rights for highlights or is it all on bt?

I think that's what you call "the glass half empty" version. Although in your case it's more like three quarters empty.

Been listening to Radio Solent's replay of their coverage tonight, while I've been repairing a PC, and the thing which astonished me the most so far has been when Adam Blackmore asked a renowned Dutch journalist from De Telegraaf [so renowned I've forgotten his name] about his friendship with the Koemans, he said that Ronald is loving his time at Saints so much that he expects him to stay for a long time. Plus, he said that Ronald is far and away the best Dutch manager and that he's gutted that he's not the Dutch National manager and Saints are very lucky indeed to have him. No wonder Krueger, Reed and Rogers interviewed him only and didn't bother with anyone else on the list.
