It may be early but I would like to try this match thread malarkey to see if I have the Midas touch. Saints take on Prague in their first ever Europa league group match and boy do they need a win to get the season rolling. League form out the window for this one as the games are different kettle of fish. Super saints will once again line up in the diamond formation, unless something incredible happens and Puel changes it up. Forster Cedric fonte VVD Bertrand Romeu Hojbjerg Davis Tadic Rodriguez Redmond Subs: Anyone who could score a goal. Prediction: Head says that Sparta will come and defend and we will really struggle to break them down. Heart says we will get the season up and running. Going to go positive and say a 2-1 win to the saints with Jay and Tadic scoring. COYR! And remember, stay positive!
Well, I've failed in my mission, so the baton is more than welcome to be yours! Hope you bring us the good fortune
Think this will be a tougher game than many expect. They're a decent side with a lot of European experience and will come n make it difficult for us. I really think this should be a priority for us this year, a win here followed by a point in Israel would be a good start to the campaign... strongest team please Heart 3-1 Head 1-1
I rarely make predictions but feel that after today's performance we'll win this one. Possibly from a last minute penalty.
The reality is that if we want to progress in the Europa, Sparta are likely to be the team we have to do bette r than . So the home game against them is crucial. I'd be fascinated to know how they are viewing us. Premier League team who finished above Chelsea and Liverpool? European newbies who couldn't get past Midgetland last year?
They're a decent side. Could go either way. If we have the same spirit and tempo that won 3-1 at Stamford bridge and beat Arsenal 4-0 I'd be confident. But it feels massively different, so I have no idea. Hopefully we find something positive.
Going to be tough against these well organized and experienced European campaigners. Add to this our poor goal scoring options l see this being a low scoring or goalless draw.
This is living the dream though. European football at St Marys (nearly said The Dell!). Bring it on...
Well we are certainly going into this first Europa League Group game on a great run of form, we must be overflowing with confidence as a squad. We can't keep clean sheets and we can't score any more than one goal so on current trends I'd say the best we can hope for is a 1-1 draw but I can see a 3-1 defeat by an experienced European outfit.
I just realised I'm going to miss this as we have rehearsals that night! ARRGH! (I say miss it, I mean record it).
Formidable opponents who put up a brave fight but ultimately fall to the Persian Saints*. I think this sums up Thursday night quite nicely. *Citation needed. May not be historically accurate.
