Match Preview;
Southampton have started their season with two wins either side of a 4-4 draw at home to Norwich. In that draw, they equalised in the 97th minute via an Adam Armstrong penalty, so leaving the ground it probably felt more like a win that a draw. It was a busy summer for them, after Nathan Jones' short lived stint as manager last season, then Rubén Sellés not able to keep them in the Premier League, Russell Martin was bought in as their new manager in June. His first few months have involved the sale of Roméo Lavia, Tino Livramento and James Ward-Prowse, for a combined total of £134.1 million. They have made some signings, including Joe Lumley and Ryan Manning joining on free transfers, and £12.25 million spent on Shea Charles. With a few core players no longer with them, it'll be interesting to see how they fare as the season progresses.
As for us, after the frustration of the game against Ipswich, we've had an entire week off. That week off, combined with the fact we are still only four games into the season, means we surely can't play like we are exhausted from 60/70 minutes onwards. The fitness levels have been so disappointing to see, and I know that can't be fixed quickly, but we need to sort it because in our four competitive games so far, we've conceded three goals on or after the 75 minute mark. In a year when we are going to need to fight for every point, consistently letting in late goals is really not going to help. I haven't heard anything more about Field or Armstrong, who were both subbed off injured against Ipswich, but I'm hoping no news is good news and they just had little knocks and so were taken off as a precaution.
Team news and manager comments to go up asap, enjoy if you'll be there, and as always...
...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
