Im with tom on this one.our pen was soft.he felt the contact and went down very easy. But who cares?i dont
Romeu is deceptive - every time today I thought he was going to be robbed or lose the ball he made just a slight adjustment to his run or position and brought the ball away - brilliant!
Didn't think it was a pen but I didn't think he dived either. I thought he just tripped over to be honest.
It may have seemed that way to you, take a look at the replays, there were two clear contacts, the second one clipped his heels which sent him sprawling.
He tripped himself up? Not seen any replays, but from memory it seemed he would have had a good chance to get a shot away. So a dive wouldn't have made much sense
Penalty all day long. The bar was set last season for me, when Delaney pulled out of his challenge on Benteke and made the slightest contact. Everything from then on is a pen. End of. yes I'm still banging on about it........
As far as the first Burnley penalty decision was concerned, I would have given it, it was McQueens challenge that pushed the player in to Virgils' clumsy attempt at a challenge, 'defo' pen, not given, their second decision was very dodgy, but I have seen them given, jury is out, but justice was partly done. Mr Dyche seems to agree with this version too, on both.
That was a terrific performance and result. A ridiculous (by modern standards) amount of attempts at goal by Saints. Redmond was starting to annoy me a bit when he refused to take players on, whilst in good positions, but then he did and I reckon that boosted his confidence as a result. So I am claiming an assist to his goal by shouting at him. And as for you negative types who were questioning Puel and the new signings after just 4 games... shame on you.
Great performance and I would particularly mention the way we play at the back- comfortable in possession is the phrase. We were very rarely troubled. There were so few misplaced passes all match, even in the first half. If we could get our shooting boots tuned, we could be seriously good.
My take having been at the game and seen some highlights (not all) - First 10-15 mins we started really well, put Burnley under pressure (including the Austin header / Heaton save) - Injury to Targett stopped our momentum and for a while not much happened. - Burnley penalty - other end so didn't have a good view. Incident wasn't on the highlights I saw but from what others are saying we got lucky there - Ended the half more brightly, enjoyed the fullbacks pushing forwards as much as possible. - McQueen played well. Not sure about 'phenomenal' but excellent PL debut. - Feels like the diamond is now working. For me it relies completely on the full backs getting forward. When they don't, we have no way out and are too predicatble. - 2 goals from well taken corners. Redmond's was an excellent volley, I'd say a much better technically than his goal v Watford. (More difficult and better connection) - Our penalty - great pass Tadic, great run McQueen, little contact but I thought definite foul (at pace, even a small contact is enough to send someone flying). - Their penalty - Soft BUT Tadic silly to give Mike Dean the decision to make, would've been hugely unlikely to score without a block. However, I sit in line with the goal-line and I am CERTAIN the ball went out of play as the corner was taken, then swung back in. Exactly as the next corner did, which was given as a goal kick. - Tannoys in the Itchen North were broken today. Couldn't hear any of benali's half time chat. - Saints overal pretty good, but next week will be a proper test of us. MOTM for me was Redmond - made things happen. - Burnley were average, really lacking a striker.
Very impressed with the rotation policy and how we are maintaining a tight defence a good style of football and now goals. We await tougher tests coming up and I still feel we are a couple short but pual is doing well so far Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
Our penalty was soft but it's a foul in the box. Not really sure what happened with their penalty, tadic collided and their player went down, once he was pretty much on the floor tadic had his hand on his back. Didn't really look like a push. McQueen does look good, first half very unsure but 2nd he looked great going forward. Can't really comment on his defence, Burnley asked no questions of us.
