I think we are all in agreement that we could do with a CB/Gaston Ramirez. But to say we will be buggered well. On what evidence? We have played the best team in the division and a team that towards the back end of last season played like the best team in the division. Moyes said to judge it after 10 games, give Adkins and the lads time.

Please allow me to explain how football works. What happens is two teams play against each other. At the end of ninety minutes plus stoppage time, a result is formed based on the amount of goals each team has scored.

Now, you're clearly confusing this with Top Trumps. This is the playground game where various pieces of information are recorded about certain items, let's say footballers in this instance. You then simply compare what it says on your card to what it says on your opponent's card to get a result. So, if for example I was holding a card that said Peter Crouch and you were holding one that said Lionel Messi and I chose height as the subject, I win. That's because Peter Crouch is much better than Lionel Messi.

Your Top Trumps argument was hideously wrong last year. Not only was it wrong about us, it was also wrong about scores of teams around the world who exceeded expectations. In fact, your argument and opinions are simply completely invalid in a sporting context entirely, not just football. In fact, I would go so far as to say that you know more about the correct usage of commas than you do football.

I see you've woken up as you left off last night. Quality signings are needed yes but i maintain i think this squad could possibly survive in the Premier League.

Quite possibly correct on the comma usage but we have had that one before so I'll carry on , what was hideously wring last year ? Quote as you have a far better memory than I and I was the one supposed to be writing what exactly ?
Your post was wasteful but I did learn a bit about top trumps ......

Moyes is quite correct , but after 10 games you have the squad to take you through to January , we do not have that squad yet , why ? God knows but it should of Breen addressed earlier than this , hit the ground running , that performance did little to inspire as it's not the defeat it's the manner of the defeat .

I have come to the conclusion that the OS is virtually useless, have been trying to see the Wigan match Gallery and all I get is Doddys U18's match report or the Man City Gallery, why have they made it so complicated?

That's your opinion , I am off the Mathew Street festival later , I could quite possibly bump into Agger and Cole but I doubt it .
I would not rather take the chance , in fact can you Fonte and Hooiveld and our other cb's keeping us in this league ?

What is it that you deliberately missed? I am a bit confused by your negativity. Were you at the match itself? How much did you take in from it, if so. If not what are you baseing your criticism on? If you missed watching any footage how on earth can you comment on the nuances? I agree that the delay in the signings has been critical at this stage, but that has not been entirely in our hands, others seem to take great delight in messing us about and as we know NC is not prepared to be taken for a ride. I am sure his ambitions will see us through, but we do need more positives from all levels, moaners never sort out anything.

You are referring to one signing recently , what about the previous 3odd months ?

I'm an avid reader (or lurker, if you will) of this forum and have been for a year or so. I seldom feel the need to post myself, but I have to say that I am completely shocked by the amount of knee-jerk negativity both on this forum and from fans at the game, friends, people on the radio etc. Many of these players just played their 2nd Premiership game, and I have to say I don't think we were that bad at all. The team played very well at times and some of the patient build up play around Wigan's box (especially in the 1st half) was really encouraging. The only criticism I would really have would be that the team obviously should have been more ruthless and could have moved the ball around quicker in the 2nd half. Didn't think they were TOO bad defensively either. I can't be the only person that is unfazed by this result, surely? Everyone seemed to be surprisingly arrogant in the lead up to this game, but Wigan have been playing really well (extending into last season, of course), they were organised and tactically sound yesterday, to be fair scored a great goal, and I see this as part of the learning curve for the team - If we were totally outclassed it would be way different. I don't consider myself naive, ignorant, or overly optimistic in terms of football, but I genuinely think Southampton will stay up comfortably this year. Maybe I'm incorrect, though, and should be whipping myself up into a hysterical terror like a large portion of the fan base seems to be!

I wasn't piling all my hopes on this game, so allowed myself to be sanguine about it. Too many saw this game as our only chance of points in the first four and therefore a must win game. It wasn't. Calmer analysis reveals that we had chances and didn't take them (we did a lot of that last year). We weren't rolled over, but, as Jos said. learnt the lesson that any carelessness is punished in this league.

In general I agree with you. If you wade through this thread, mixed in with all the knee jerk negativity, you will find optimism (as well as my own brand of realism). I think you could see there were a lot of plastics at St Mary's yesterday by the people leading the mass exodus after the second goal. When we were losing 4-1 to Coventry and at home to Rochdale I dreamed about Saints playing in the premiership. Doesn't matter how the results go, i'm not missing a ****ing minute of it.

Why are people panicking? 10 games in, 0 points and playing rubbish then maybe I will start to worry.
We will learn a lot about this league in the next 2 games, I am not expecting much but if we get 1 point then i believe we will kick on and pick up points and be more than safe.
A couple of additions this week is a must, but in Nigel and Nicola I trust.
    So stop being negative everybody.

That would leave us with 28 games left in which to get at least 35/40 points , I would be ****ting myself .

Where have you been lately, there have been a number of potential signings that haven't happened because of the circumstances beyond our control, did you actually watch how clever and experienced the Wigan side were, they were not better players than ours, they just got the technical stuff right, whereas our greenhorns were extremely naive, they will learn and I am in no doubt we have some good results coming in the pipeline, a couple of Premier class signings will raise the morale and bring the little extra that we need in this League, please keep the faith, it is too early to be writing us off.

Can't say we haven't got enough attacking options. If anything we have too many strikers. lol Just need to get this front 3 working better and then ditch Fox for either Shaw or 'new signing' followd by the harsh reality of 'Sorry Jose, you've been great for us but you're not up to this level on your current form.

Therefore a bit of gelling/altering of the front 3 and 2 better defenders I we will be mid table.

Either way Cortese is right not to be silly with the money. If he decides we have to either try and play hardball or miss out on a player then he is the one who has the books in front of him. Some people seem to forget what happened last time 'fans' ran the club and gambled on big wages!!!! Lets not get back there.

Worse case scenario is that a relegated Saints is better than back in admin in 3 years time!!! Trust the guy and Saints will survive in terms of existence and PL. Sure of that. Bet Crtese is going through many options at the moment with a view to concluding 2 or 3 of them leaving ADKins to concentrate on the team.

As for QPR last week it was said they weren't going to risk bankrupting the club, the pundits said they were going about it the right way, then in the space of a few days they panicked and bought several players!!!! QPR are likely to go down this year IMO and therefore that could spell a huge problem.

General opinion is that QPR are gambling which is fine if you win, but not so hot if you lose.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I am wondering if we lost to a relegation rival yesterday or a safe mid-table side. The Wigan who finished last season certainly aren't a relegation rival. I wouldn't be surprised if Wigan got relegated this season, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they finished 12th.

Any way, for me yesterday has supported my view (and the view of others) that improving our wide options (including someone with pace) has to be our number one target this week, closely followed by CB.

Sorry Brendy, but I don't think we should be dressing Wigan up as anything other than relegation fodder. They are certainly a relegation rival, and they will be there or thereabouts this season (as will we).
