Maybe. I know he went to the other pocket and then changed his mind, but I don't know how convincing I find that by itself. I could see it just being a case of it knowing it was borderline, initially thinking yellow, then after a second to think about it, changing your mind. OTOH, I could also see the reason why he might have changed his mind-- subconsciously or otherwise-- being because West Ham were screaming bloody murder.

Praising Saints defence on Sky, especially Virgil. Pointing out how young he is and how he revelled in the physicality of tonight's game despite preferring to get more forward. Showed WHU's chances...though Jamie Redknapp said they couldn't really call them chances. Mentioned that West Ham tried to change to match our style, but may have done better to stick to their own plan.

This game was very important as we kept the Hammers in our sights.

Bilic said he's gutted and he looks it

No point in appealing the red card imo....no real grounds and risks extra penalty.

Which is a bit worrying if he is the best ref in the league.

Vic now shares red card tally with Wes Brown. 3 in season is trying too hard.

I don't mind Romeu getting 5 games now, he is equally as good as Wanyama. But still should have been a yellow.

Without turning a great positive into a 'Clattenberg thread' just that bit quoted says to me he is a poor referee. But football, like life, is about opinions and we all have different ones.

I agree. He's proved himself of late, and he seems to offer a bit more going forward as far as I have seen.

Oh and a few West Ham fans tried to start a fight. Well done to the stewards for stopping them.

Romeu's been good-to-great most times he has played. My main concern with Romeu early in the season was I thought he was picking up too many yellows on silly fouls. But now that Wanyama has completely redefined my concept of "silly foul" it no longer seems a big deal (plus Romeu has tightened up).

We did more than just keep them in our sights! Sixth place is up for grabs now.

I agree, seen the replay a couple of times and If was a west ham player we would have said it was a red, needless challenge in the center of the park, no threat. Anyway, great defensive performance but WH helped but trying to walk through the defense. Did not start playing balls into the box until after 80 mins. We really have a great balanced set up, Pelle needs match fitness, would have taken him off instead of Mane just because Mane defends a little better. As other posters mentioned, pacing the floorboards for 30 odd minutes, but a win is a win and not many when down to 10 men, the memory of Norwich was still fresh in the mind. Who do we have next?

The Clattenburg argument is a silly one. Why? Because he cleverly got us back into the game with that Red. We were rubbish before it. The fans were quiet. I was fearing a 1-1 or even a 1-2 - then the clever red got our backs up, the crowd came alive and we never looked in much danger.

    Well done, Ref!

Losing Waynama for five matches is a big blow. He was immense against United and Arsenal, today he also kept Payet in his pocket until the red card. He was playing in superb form.

Koeman obviously wasn't going to commit himself until he saw the incident on the monitor, but said you can't keep giving opportunities to the ref to give you a red.

All the more reason for him to show some maturity and not make it easy for the ref to red card him.

It screws up a potential loan move for Reed, as now we will need him around. But maybe he gets some playing time out of it?
