Yep. Been years now. Not like he left a few months ago.

    :(

So sad. We knew it was coming and maybe, just maybe it actually has worked out well for him.

He fulfilled his dream. He played at Anfield for his team and he acted for his team (did he score at Anfield for them at all?)

Trying to put a Fats' positive spin on this, I couldn't imagine having to watch him deteriate and rot while here and that may have happened. I'd have loved him to stay, but I can at least always have this wonderful memories of him from each of those five years here.

    Legend.

I wouldn't want him back, but singing that song isn't about wanting him back. It's about letting him know how important he was.

Anytime he comes back, I'll gladly sing that song. It's a tribute. We never got to say goodbye properly, so now we say goodbye every time we see him.

I would only want him back as a coach. But still think Lambert knows how some felt now so we should move on.

    I'm with you on this.
I have a bucketful of respect, for Rickie the footballer, for the good times he helped bring to the club, but my respect for him, as a person, took a hefty knock when he made those "it could have been so different" comments, without filling in the blanks. Had he made that comment, with an explanation as to why "it could have been so different", then fair enough.
I thought that was well out of order, when you remember that he may not have got his prized move to Liverpool, had Cortese stayed, as he was reportedly being sold to West Ham, the previous January.
People, on various forums, are still having heated arguments, over the meaning of his comments, so with regards to the Rickie Lambert love in, I'm out.

We may knock Saintsweb, but they have voted for Davis as the clear winner MOTM.

I don't feel sorry for RL at all , and I doubt he feels sorry for himself !

He is a hero here , he did well by us , we did well by him .

He Chose to move , to take up the chance to play for his dream club . Sadly for him , that did not work out .

People should be allowed to sing his name when he is here if they wish .

He wasn't really a legend tbh so wouldn't mind. One that has to stop is the Pompey song, I find it weird singing about a Div 2 team.

According to statistics (where's our online statistician when we need him? :emoticon-0105-wink:) Prowsey ran more miles than Steven Davis yesterday. Just goes to show what statistics can prove (I didn't see it divided by the number of minutes each spent on the pitch) .....

Nothing at all wrong with remembering past players (or managers) by singing about them at the game - it's fun.

It's the thinly veiled suggestions that a Rickie would be good for us now, or Adkins (a good Championship level manager) would somehow magically learn new skills to extricate us from a bad run that bugs/amuses me.

I adore Rickie, he's my favourite footballer ever. I would bring him back for sentimental reasons. Not sure he would be useful to us now, but for an odd cameo, why not. It would be fitting that he retires at SMS, with the that adores him and which he made happy countless times with his goals.

As long as we can keep the Kelvin/Steven Davis one it's fine.

If freedom of speech means anything, it's being able to sing songs about your heroes. Well, OK plus a few other things. The way that Rickie left was so different from any of the other high profile players. The interest came from Liverpool and he was not pushing for a move. Like most of the players who have left in the Liebherr era, his stock has not risen. This at least meant we were spared the awkward end of career period like MLT had where fitness and injury made him a shadow of his former self. He cost £1m we sold for £4m and the joy he gave me on the pitch was priceless. Cortese used to suggest that we needed to "move on" and ignore the past. I disagree.
