Both sides have remained unbeaten so far this season having collected five points each in their early season endeavours. What makes this interesting is that Southampton’s only success has come on home soil this season, while Watford’s only win happened out on the road. So this could be a really tight and entertaining tussle down on the south coast. So both are putting their unbeaten records this season on the line at St. Mary's. This will the third home game for the Saints already this season, having drawn with Swansea and having beaten West Ham on the south coast already. The Saints have failed to score in two of their three games this season. Southampton have actually scored in just one of their last seven home games now and two of the three goals in their 3-2 home win over West Ham were from the penalty spot. Saints will have to produce the goals needed to win. Southampton have only won three home games in the Premier League since Christmas last year. There’s nothing too much for Watford to be afraid of then going down to the south coast on the weekend. They have done well this season with a W1 D2 record, just like Southampton. Their lone victory this season happened out on the road when they banked a comfortable 2-0 win at Bournemouth and they have two clean sheets in three league games so far. Watford have however scored just one goal in their last three visits to St. Mary's. please log in to view this image Mauricio Pellegrino is the new manager who has a reputation for setting up sides so that they're hard to beat, which may not exactly produce the gung-ho side that the fans have been used to seeing. please log in to view this image The Head Coach this afternoon reported that Younès Kaboul, Daryl Janmaat and Roberto Pereyra, who all sustained injuries on the opening day against Liverpool, are all back in training and are in contention to make the squad. The return of Kaboul is particularly timely as the Golden Boys are short on options at centre-half. Miguel Britos is suspended, Craig Cathcart has undergone knee surgery while Molla Waguè is yet to join up with his new teammates following international duty. There is also a decision to make about Sebastian Prödl. “Prödl is a doubt,” confirmed the Head Coach. “He had a small problem with the national team and again we will see tomorrow.” Club captain Troy Deeney is, on the other hand, approaching peak fitness and nearing his first league start of the season. “We are happy with him, he's our captain,” said the Head Coach. “We want to get him to a good level to help the team, like he did last season. He's happy to stay here, to compete and play in our team. Our officials for the game L. Probert A. Garratt D. Cook T. Robinson WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD - ENJOY THE GAME
Good to get the injured players back - how long will Kaboul and Janmaat last! Be a tight game - 1-1 or 2-1 either way.
A few years ago, it seemed like we were guaranteed 3 points from every game against them, also scoring 3 goals in the process - wouldn't mind going back to that.
Thanks OFH. Here's some good stuff from a Watford fan on a Southampton site: https://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com...tford-fan-about-the-upcoming-game-at-st-marys
Let´s see the progress that has been made with signings and mananger a bit more tomorrow please. Although, how will Silva manage without Amrabat? Southampton away, not sure how to call this one. I´d happily take a point.
Well sounds like the new centre half won't be involved... Lawro/Merse think we will lose (so probably win!) The former came up with this gem: "We are seeing again what a good manager Marco Silva is - at this rate he might even last more than a season in charge of Watford - or at least get to Christmas anyway" I seem to remember our last managers lasted till the end of the season.....not sure what the last comment is all about then!
Yes thinking of all between a hurricane and an earthquake. Keep safe. As for this one I want to be optimistic, and I think being so is justified, but as Mex says a draw would not be a bad result. C'mon u'orns
The game's a sell-out according to the Saints website - although it doesn't say whether that means just home fans. I haven't seen anything about our allocation.
