Absolutely, but knowing that is what he is going to do can lead to opportunities, there were a couple of rickets that weren't punished, a little bit of anticipation could have paid dividends.
I have to disagree there, it doesn't matter how wet the ball, a lot of those punches should have been caught. The stats seem to suggest that he'd have punched whatever the conditions. I'm sure I'll be proved wrong but my memory of the era when British goalkeepers ruled the world, is that you rarely saw a Banks, Jennings, Shilton etc doing much in the way of punching. And that was without the benefit of the gloves they wear these days.
I don't know why people don't ask the goalkeepers themselves. Surely they know the answer. But you've highlighted a possible cause straight away. In the days of no-gloves, keepers would catch the ball often. Nowadays they don't, with gloves. Obviously it's more complicated than that though. Besides, I saw some highlights and Frazer caught the ball a couple of times.
I see that teams are once again having an off-day if they are beaten by Saints. Watford are the latest team to have one. Didn't take long for the media [Gary Lineker in this case] to forget that we're a Europe chasing club did it? I suppose we'll have to be that plucky little club again until the slump is well and truly over.
If you mention how gloves have changed, its only fair to point out how the ball has also evolved. Just saying.......
I feel a bout of smugness coming over me. I normally get this way after 5 Stellas. I actually predicted 2-0 and thanks to Sadio for all those misses I was right We didn't play 5 at the back, we played 3 and that gives the wing-backs or whatever you want to call them more opportunity to attack. If your wing-backs get pinned back its negative, otherwise this is anything but. Formations don't win or lose games, players do. We had Sadio at the back for corners and Jose for free kicks. Shows Ron reads this forum and takes notice of our advice We worked much harder than Watford and thus made them look poor. MOTM Steve Davis, shows what he adds when the rest of the team are prepared to work too. Got to look at his goal on highlights, surely not offside? Shane's running was awesome. I'm always amazed he looks dead on his feet at times in the last 10 minutes, but a minute later he's off again. VVD won EVERYTHING in the air. Clasie & Romeu starting to look better together, still room for improvement. Long &/or Tadic need to get nearer to Garazziano when he's flicking those headers on. He had one late in the game and no-one was within a mile of him. Dusan's goal was class, shame he can't run. How many ***s must he smoke to be that slow I assume you will will be doing the positive match thread for West Brom FLT
Some in the PL, not everyone. Certainly not Watford. You're supposed to be a Saints supporter. Why do you feel the need to defend the media?
Yes, well the fact is that we're not a plucky little club anymore. [18th richest brand in World Football]
All true, gloves and ball. Certainly the really old, lace up balls weren't slick. Without gloves, they wouldn't have been much fun to punch (they certainly weren't much fun to head!). There seem to have been a few occasions recently where goalkeepers have parried the ball back into the playing area only for the rebound to be knocked in. Changing the subject, I have to agree with Osvaldorama that Romeu deserve to keep his place. I don't see why any changes need to be made really. Tadic, for example, looks brilliant when he comes on as a sub; better than when he starts. Also, I can't help but love little Cedric. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does.
Was it. I thought so in real time. Of course if he hadn't been flagged the ball would have ended up in row xx!
Yes it was. He was in line. They didn't feel the need to mention it on MOTD. Fact is, they didn't mention much.
That's weather forecasting for the Test Valley area for you. I begin to think they'd do better with barometers and a couple of pine cones. That's not to denigrate the barometer, an excellent instrument in itself. But with all the computer modelling and satellite imagery, you'd expect something slightly better. I've recently uninstalled my BBC weather app on my phone as I could no longer put up with its inaccuracies. Being an outdoor person and motorcycle rider, I tend to hope for decent predictions. Lately, I've been looking at the skies in whatever direction the wind is coming and gone with that. Just as good. That, and going back to the excellent shipping forecast.
It is indeed possible, I've seen it many times myself. What you do is firstly fork out 30 odd quid on a ticket and then arrive well after kick off. You then spend the rest of the game moving back and forth between your seat and the concourse. Sometimes having a natter with one of your mates on the stairs can help you avoid having to watch the game ( this has the added bonus of helping others around you also missing the action). Then you leave early. Result.....A great night out supporting the lads and you get home early enough to watch the highlights on MOTD.
