He wasn't mate. He was right. You've got to have that winning mentality and be very sore when you lose. That feeling gives you the edge in the next game.
Yep, point taken. However, whenever I see Hoilett he always injects pace and attacking impetus imo. He may well be lacking in effort in training and as you say, only the coaching staff will know. But Harry does seem to be very stubborn about players and if he doesn't take to you (Yun) it doesn't seem to matter what you do, you won't start. I know many disagree, but I would pick Hoilett ahead of Phillips every single time. Hoilett was as instrumental as oh BZ in getting us up imo.
So would I col. That wasn't the case last season but it is now. I would also prefer him to play than Fer. Havn't felt like reading through ten pages of this thread after a defeat, but what really concerns me is that today was possibly the best we have played away in 2014. That is very frightening for us as a club!
I agree as I would also play Hoilett before Phillips. He started and was very influential in the move that led up to Charlie's fantastic goal today. That should count for something. I'm just afraid he's one of those players that lives on past performances and doesn't do enough during the week to convince the coaches he should start come Saturday....? I might be far off the mark but that is the impression I get. I'd be careful to write of Phillips at this level. I remember him being effective for Blackpool in the Prem, and as soon as he finds his feet (like Charlie today) he could be a real asset. It's a big step up and these things takes time for players to adapt to. I feel we are far to impatient with players on here. Give 'em time and we'll have some very good players on our hands. Regarding Yun it is obvious Harry isn't convinced. Wether he is right or wrong is hard to say as we haven't seen him play at this level yet. That said I think Traore played very well today. He has made steady progress and seem very focused for the first time while with us.
Having watched the highlights now, I think green was awful for the first goal and didn't hardly get off the ground for the second (which was admittedly a brilliant effort). Austin's brilliant goal was a perfect example of what I'm saying about Hoillett driving at defences with pace ( I bet hardly anyone mentions it ).
ALso just watched MOTD. WE looked like a team who were actually playing some football and showing some determination. Niko's free kick just an inch lower and it's in though they hit the woodwork at least twice too. Generally an encouraging display, especially for an away game against a high flying side. We must carry that momentum into our home form and even away against the Hammers.
A bit more like it away from home, bad first goal 2nd pure quality, thought caulker should have put the rebound in.
You missed a very relevant bit about Hoillet Sylvio - he cut the ball back straight to the only Derby defender in front of their goal, whose poor control played it straight to OBZ... Hoillet cannot cross, Phillips and others can. I haven't seen today's game yet either. Looking partly forward to that Monday night.
The only reason you lost this game was because the OP put up a photo of Saints fan, model Luucy Pinder, wearing a Sunderland shirt. (Ms Pinder is on record as saying she regrets that particular modelling assignment.) So, not tactics but karma.
I didn't watch all off it but he looked better. Not flawless but seemed to play the percentages more in defence and contribute going forwards (retaining possession better and making some good runs).
First goal ok, but if you are going to criticise Green for the second, should also recognise that Charlie's great effort was also in the middle of the goal and could have been saved. I couldn't draw any conclusions from the highlights, except that we could easily have conceded another four going by chances. But if those who saw the whole game, or even better were there ( I'll wait for Judo and Sussex) thought it was better, great. ....but still a good job that Clint made sure he was on the pitch at Wembley, that he fought for the ball and got it across, and that we are not visiting Bournemouth rather than Southampton on the south coast. And if you fancy posting a youtube collection of Phillips and others great crosses for QPR I'd love to see it. I remember the one against Stoke last week.
I agree with both those points. I also don't want to end up with McCarthy leaving in a year or two and then seeing him in an England shirt a year later because I think he is that good and should use him actively as an alternative.
Peter As a Saints fan I'm amazed at your assessment. Hoilett was superb when he came on for Rnagers and Krancjar only really started to play when this substitution had been made. We struggled to contain Holilett when he arrived on the pitch and caused some real problems when, beforehand, our midfield looked quite comfortable. Had you started with the formation you ended with, Rangers would have got a point. I thought that Troare also had a good game for your boys but Austin took a long while to get in to the game. Two quality goals lit up an exciting second half after an initial frustrating 45 minutes. Too many has been and journeymen players in the Rangers side. Very much a Redknapp team but I think you need to bring more quality in to the squad, other than Krancjar, if you are to survive. Hoilett was extremely impressive , in my opinion. Just the kind of player you need to make an impression in this league. Good luck. Cheers Ian
