I just don't understand why, in that situation, you'd set it for a right footer, especially if you knew anything about Norwich and Snodgrass. Either way, he should have saved it... how many were actually in the wall? It was at the other end of the ground to me and I've not seen it again.
It was just a 3 man wall. It was right on the edge of the box. A 4 or 5 man wall would have been wiser, it's obviously very hard to get it up and over a wall to beat the keeper from where it was. Put it this way..had the 4th man in the wall been covering the left footer he still might not have blocked it. It would have skimmed past a 4th man or clipped him. Gazzaniga's basically backed himself to save it if Snodgrass takes the shot on. He's comfortably got to the ball but not saved it. Wasn't even a powerful free kick or perfectly in the corner
A bit disappointing after our recent good performances but a draw keeps the unbeaten run moving and the points slowly mounting. Saints may have been below par but i thought that it was a very good away performance by Norwich, especially in 2nd half. We should really have made more of our 1st half domination but thats football jim. I have supported keeping young Gazza in the team but after last night am having my doubts as he giving away a few crucial goals - however he did make a really important save from the 's--- Rickie Lambert' later on. Not a good night for Rickies old mate thankfully and he didnt look too impressed when he was subbed ! Thought Fonte was excellent last night and Luke Shaw is just so bloody impressive for a 17 year old. Another baffling display by ref & linesmen - good to see Clattenburg back at work, but he certainly gave some damn odd decisions, as did his mate on the Itchen touchline. I cant see how they didnt give us a corner in the first half when the Norwich player cleared the ball about a yard inside the byline ! Sammy Saint is becoming quite a star with his dance routines !! Onwards and upwards to Anfield and another point hopefully.
Important not to have lost to maintain momentum, but we need to get wins as we will no doubt get sucked back down (bearing in mind Reading have game in hand). The next few games are winnable (Liverpool, Reading, Sunderland, Fulham) and would result in a swift jump up table. Yesterday's result was fairly typical...how often have we got a good result to be followed by dropped points in matches we had greater hopes for? Norwich survived in the PL last season and have had some good results this season, so no disgrace in a draw (though disappointing at home). Still not convinced Nigel will drop Gazza as he seems to have no faith in Boruc/SKD. Have to wait and see,
morning saints well, that didn't quite leave up to the expectation did it? a draw was a fair result. in the last 20, i think both managers were playing to not lose the game - no attacking subs were made! your CBs played well, handled Grant well (he looked knackered). also puncheon and clyne had our LB in their pocket - they were your best players in my opinion. see you for the return fixture at Carrow Rd.
I think what we can draw from the match, and recent matches,is that neither club is relegation material. There must be half a dozen worse teams than these.
That's the impression I left with. Some of the football last night (from both teams) was class. If either side had played like that in the championship, they would have won the game.
That is what I feel...we have started getting results after a hard start. A few teams above us are weaker, but were more clinical/had more luck/played easier games (delete as applicable). However, life isn't always fair and we must fight to maintain this momentum. One of our major strengths is togetherness and positivity and that is down to one man (Saint Nigel Adkins). We have to get points now in this 'easier' phase and hope experience will enable us to get some points from the repeat round of games against the top sides.
Rochdale at one point had both Lambert and Holt playing for them in League Two! How they didn't score their way to promotion I don't know.
