A draw was a fair result against a well-drilled Norwich side. Neither team created much clear cut. Thought we could have made the subs earlier though. Still, a draw against a team in good form isn't a bad result. Although the goal wasn't a classic bit of keeping, shouldn't the wall be across to block the shot at that height? If Snodgrass had struck it better, Gazza woould have got nowhere near it.
I would have expected and taken a draw before the start so wasn't disappointed or surprised, but I did think we were playing against 14 today, some really inept officiating from all three in my opinion. I gave Fonte my MoM vote, and Shaw was outstanding again. Where did Lala go in the second half? Give Norwich their due, they were a bit better than us in most departments, didn't think Holt was too pleased at being subbed but was inefective for the most part. Now if we could nick a point or three on Saturday I will be delighted. I do feel sorry for Gazza, it was just unfortunate again that his one real mistake gets punished like that, it is a bit unfair.
First half, us. Second half them. They play in a style not dissimilar to Saints, bearing in mind that they were the away team tonight. I will be interested to see if the ref was as bad as he seemed, but since there will probably be only 30 seconds of coverage on MOTD, I guess I won't find out tonight. 4 games unbeaten, 8 points, Only 3 goals conceded in the last 4 games. I would have taken that and there can't be many who wouldn't?
I think the Lambert 'handball' wasn't handball. Came of a head then hits him on the arm (ball to hand) before he can react. Ball then goes backward (away from goal) and hits a Norwich player before bouncing back in front of Rickie. Seen 'em given as handball but for once it was not given as it was not deliberate Other than that Clatenberg and his pals were woeful. Shaw's was a great tackle if not a little hard and Stuart Pearce like. Also want to see Clyne's tackle again for the free kick they scored from. Looked a good tackle to me. Like all above....8 points from 12. we would all have settled for that before. I think if anything our hopes of a result at Anfield will now be much higher. I don't think we need to fear anyone in the bottom half of the table at the mo. We should really be expecting a win home or away (with realism meaning some will be draws and the odd one a loss) We must be high in the form tables.
Liverpool v Southampton Officials Referee: Michael Oliver; Assistants: S Long, C Breakspear; Fourth official: L Mason. I just hope they are better than tonights shower, otherwise I can see Jose and Yosh seeing colours.
Now, given how tired many of the players seemed in the second half, how many changes do we make for the weekend?
Stokes GK made a real rickett and was punished with a goal, however Stoke won 2 - 1 and they weren't punished! Fate has an odd way of behaving sometimes.
Watching MoD and looking at the Lambo goal, the ball may have hit his arm, but he never had a chance to avoid it and Clynes "foul" was in fact a good tackle, got the ball before the Norwich player tumbled over him. The wall was seriously at fault at the free kick, Gazza needs to be more bossy in this respect and Puncheons attempt to clear the ball only served to distract Gazza. It was also apparent that Gazza made a couple of very important saves.
Puncheon was there but seriously you cannot ever concede that as a keeper. He can't have an excuse. He saved from close range on a corner..but he should have really been claiming the ball anyway, and it was straight at him for the save. Just looking again don't agree about the wall he's set it up for a right footer knowing he has sight if the left footer takes it
I doubt even many Norwich fans think that was handball, but I'm shocked you can't see that Clynes fouled him! All of them on MotD agreed it was clear- the only reason he got the ball was because he chopped through Snodgrass. Anyway, they got on thing spot on- a draw was the fairest result in this match. I reply thought we were going to score in that first twenty mins of the second half, but that would have been a bit unfair n reflection
I bet most of the Norwich fans on the t'internet (meaning a high nucleus of young k/board warriors) will argue though the night that there is no such thing as ball to hand. And it was a good tackle. I concede in modern day football you aren't allowed to tackle but that was a good old Stuart Pearce. If you get the ball...good. If you take the man as well...even better. Probably a modern day 'foul' but not by the rules. It's a 'non contact garbage'. that isn't in the rules just like these days 'contact' equals a foul. Nope a foul = a foul. Something that refs or FAs should clamp down on (yes our players are guilty of this too.) However when Clattenberg gave Norwich the free kick against Lambert for a foul on the player in front when it was the Norwich player climbing on his back that pushed him into the player in front the writing was on the wall. Draw a fair result? For the quality of play maybe. However we should've turned that first half into a couple of goal or more lead and not needed to worry so much. People say the second half was boring? I found it pretty exciting and fingernail dangertime in the last quarter. lol
Dunno if anyone's mentioned it but the wall on the free kick was appalling. As soon as they lined up Jake said "that wall is positioned way too far out, Snodgrass can curl it on target easily". Lo and behold...
It's was set for a right footer though. If they wanted to cover right and left footer they needed more men in the wall.
Why on earth would you set it for a right footer from that angle? The position of the ball set itself up for a left foot shot, right foot cross.
A right footer could bend it round a wall set only for a left footer and beat the keeper near post that way. Looks to me like he's set it for a right footer as otherwise the wall isn't actually doing anything at all being where it is. They could have had a 5 man wall and covered the left footer as well.
