1-1 draw. It’s must win in that we don’t win games and this is pretty much one of/if not the best chance we have of winning one so we have to take this chance considering we ****ed up some of the others already. But at the end of the day, a few wins here and there keep you up - coupled with a mountain of draws. So as long as they come from somewhere I don’t care.
Likewise. If there was an available, better option out there we could parachute in, I wouldn’t lose any sleep. But then I think realistically it’s too early.
Yep, i'm a bit like that and I'm finding that my main argument for Hughes is that he is not Pellegrino!
Newcastle are a very bad team. If we play well we should have a good chance of winning. If we defend for 70 minutes and try to push at the end, that will be not so good.
I don't want us to become a sacking club, partly because it's blooming expensive. I know that shouldn't mean you stick with a manager regardless, but you have to have some patience. I never thought Hughes would do wonders for us, but I hoped for mid-table stability…..on that basis I would give him a bit longer. If I had a crystal ball I'd swap him for a more successful manager, but without one, we could just be swapping him for another manager who needs time to settle in and that might produce no improvement at all.
Pre match reading: Nice bit about Moi Elyounoussi who has done quite a lot with his life. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/oct/26/mohamed-elyounoussi-southampton-interview Highly xG/statsy thing about what the hell is happening with us. https://www.footballwhispers.com/blog/hughes-has-steered-southampton-back-into-choppy-waters
Completely agree. But sadly, it's just as applicable for a Newcastle fan to write that, when replacing the word Newcastle with Southampton.
I do though have high hopes that this game can be our Everton home game from last season. But then again, I had high hopes going into the Brighton home game.
If you put the Palace win to one-side, because we only got our second goal in that one in the very last second, I'm trying to remember when we last didn't throw away a two-nil lead. Brighton this season, Chelsea and West Ham last season (yes we recovered to beat West Ham, but we still went from 2-0 to 2-2). The Everton home win and WBA away win, we didn't take a 2-0 lead in. Maybe the 4-0 Sunderland away win, during Gabbi's wonder patch?
Ha, glad everyone else is getting sick of the Mark Hughes PR machine. I still laugh about "a club I know well and have real affinity with" when we first signed him, I wanted him to say he was looking forward to being back at the Dell.
Haven’t posted in a while but really up for this game and think we can get a positive result. Going for 4-0 Saints. Now where’s my straight jacket.....
Only Danny, Pierre, Charlie and Ryan (in that order) have scored this season. So them + some others for me.
those stats may be complete rubbish because the BBC top scorers page also says Charlie has only played 9 minutes all season Southampton Top Scorers Danny Ings 176 per goal 704 played 4 Goals scored 0 Assists Shots on target Total 52% Pierre-Emile Højbjerg 309 per goal 617 played 2 Goals scored 0 Assists Shots on target Total 63% Charlie Austin 9 per goal 9 played 1 Goals scored 0 Assists Shots on target Total 100% Ryan Bertrand 810 per goal 810 played 1 Goals scored 0 Assists Shots on target Total 40%
