Play like that and even this City will hand our arses to us. Beat City and it’s an 11 point gap to them and a 9 point gap to the rest. On December 1st. Playing pretty poorly at times
Starting to lose patience with Nunez. Aside from the cross for Diaz he did **** all today (apart from embarrass himself by rolling around on the floor in the 1st half). Just over half a season, imo, to show that he should stay at the club. He's just not consistent enough, one great goal every 5 or more matches doesn't cut it for me.
I think that was a performance of a team feeling the pressure of expectation following City's loss yesterday. Thankfully they did enough for the win.
It was tight but seemed outside to me. All a moot point now but it was an awful challenge by Robbo after a joke of an attempted pass by VvD. We got lucky in the end.
The game isn't available for me to watch until tomorrow so I've only seen the extended highlights so far... Southampton really need a new goalkeeper.... He seems to always be out of position and making errors. Otherwise they looked better than a last placed team should look. I wouldn't be surprised if they were several places higher with a good goalkeeper
Well that was closer than I expected it to be. Thought you were deserved winners but **** me did we give you a helping hand. You were some way off your best but luckily for you we have a complete clown as manager. See what I mean about us constantly coughing up chances from pissing around at the back? It happened at least four times in the first half alone and nobody was shocked when that's how you took the lead. Bit frustrated really as if we were a bit less naive and ridiculous with our passing and named a better lineup I think there was something there for us today. Infuriating. Definitely think you'll win the league this season. I understand you lot not wanting to get carried away but as long as you avoid defeat next week it'd be a huge missed opportunity for you if you didn't win it.
Getting the job done after it looked like we’d throw a big opportunity away does make it a sweet Sunday, but we do need to wake up for the next 2 games. Frustrating for the most part but shout outs to Gravenberch who was non stop and showed quality throughout, and Mo of course. Seeing a lot of people saying he was anonymous but popped up with the goals, I disagree with that. He actually had many chances today and caused them a lot of problems
Literally everyone can see it except him and the people in charge. But then I guess this is what happens the bloke in charge of football operations at the club thinks that the league table isn't an accurate way of judging performance. On your second point I disagree massively as he simply cannot coach a defence or react to changes in a game. Too stubborn and inflexible to succeed at a high level.
First time he's started this season. Madness Also then ****ing typical that he ends up getting injured.
He's awful and nowhere near good enough for you lot imo. He's shown flashes occasionally but never pushes on from them.
Getting 3 points when we deserved nothing is a thing of beauty. We've played well in general this season so you just have to love that result and hope that we have a better game Vs City.
You have a decent day out anyway I'd say thst hast 15mins was extremely frustrating as your lot refused to just go for it and passed about. We were poor enough there.
Tiring. I'd say a lot of players will be blowing over the next week after that. Looked a very heavy pitch Remember a lot of players had a few days off there and most were done by Monday never mind Tuesday. Why we just decided to not even move after lallana lay down I don't know. We went so far into a negative mindset it eas unreal given how much injury time there had to be. We got everything we deserved there. But we chased it and got the breaks. Gifts tbh but hey, all the goals were gifts.
The constant passing with no purpose is so ****e to watch. Heads dropped massively too as soon as you equalised so never expected any other result once that went in.
I said during the game you guys pass the ball well and break lines nicely and open up teams that come onto you when you get it right. But when you get it wrong it’s very bad - not helped by having a goalkeeper that doesn’t know how to kick a ball. If you can play that football on the halfway line and up then you’re good, but like you and everyone else says and knows, when doing it in your own box just aren’t good enough. If cut down that risk by 50% I think would see a huge improvement. Not even talking about whacking it long but just little chips up and into players and hold onto it to allow team to push up. Dibling also looks a hell of a player. Nice that he went to Chelsea didn’t like it and came back as well. You’d hope that would mean he’s happy to stay for another year or two to really develop
The problem is we take all our risks in our own third and hardly any in the opposition's and we're too easy to play against. We play at too slow a tempo and lack purpose in our passing when going forward the majority of the time - our second goal today was a lovely move but was the most un-Martin like goal we've scored this season as we hardly ever move the ball that quickly. We were worked out by plenty of average/poor championship sides last season too just more often than not our quality/depth saw us come through. We only scraped promotion really and conceded should have been closer to the top two. Literally loads of our fans were saying last season it'd be a disaster to play this way in the PL and so it's turned out with Martin too stubborn to change. Him sarcastically clapping the fans today when the keeper cleared it long was a piss take and shows his lack of class. Our squad is lacking but there's enough there to be more competitive than we have been. A point every 3 games is pitiful. And yes Dibling is class, been a real bright spot this season. Only 18 so has huge potential. No chance he stays for the championship though when someone will probably offer £40m+ for him. Best case is someone buys him and loans him back, would be great seeing him rip up the championship for the season.
Was reading some stats about how Nunez has basically reversed roles under Slot compared to Klopp and therefore is getting off less shots but doing more in a deeper role. www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/darwin-nunez-liverpool-roberto-firmino-30421806.amp Having said that, there's no getting away from the fact that he was poor today, but circumstances mean I'm willing to give him a pass this time. because in an ideal scenario he'd have either come off the bench or not played at all today.
